The suspect arrested for planting pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic National Committees ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, riots has been identified as Brian Cole of Virginia, sources confirmed to The Post.

Cole was busted by the FBI Thursday morning in connection to the attempted bombing, just shy of the five-year anniversary of the riots at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Authorities say he was the man caught on camera skulking around the capitol the night before former President Joe Biden’s election victory was to be certified by Congress, leaving “viable explosive devices” outside the major parties’ headquarters in Washington, DC.

NBC News also confirmed the report by the New York Post:

The FBI has arrested a suspect in its investigation into pipe bombs planted near the Republican and Democratic national party headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5, 2021, according to a federal law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

Brian Cole was identified as the suspect in custody, according to two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter. The arrest marks a breakthrough in a case that has stymied investigators for nearly five years.

An FBI official says the arrest happened Thursday morning. A news conference will take place at the Justice Department on Thursday to officially announce the arrest.

The FBI is expected to give a press conference later today.
