BREAKING: Mitch McConnell Just COLLAPSED on the Floor of Senate Office Building

Breaking news early this afternoon as Mitch McConnell has taken a hard fall — again.

He collapsed while walking along a hallway in the Senate Offices, and appeared to experience some sort of problem just before he collapsed.

You’ll be able to see that in the video as he rounded a turn a few seconds before going down.

No word so far on what that might have been — whether or not it was the tale-tell sign of something more serious than just a momentary catch in his step.

The 83-year-old was taking a question about ICE from a climate change organization when he went down.

The entire thing was caught on video by the Sunrise Movement cameraman walking just beside McConnell and two security personnel.

He actually appeared to reach out to steady himself just before the collapse, grabbing either the hand or arm of the security guy to his right, almost as if he knew he was about to fall.

But there was nothing in his way, no stairs, and nothing obvious in the footage to suggest he actually tripped on something in his path.

Here’s the full clip as shared by Benny Johnson almost immediate following the incident:

I’ll post a full screen version of that clip down below so you can get a better look at what happened.

Make sure your volume is turned up, and you can just barely hear McConnell mutter something after he’s helped up — though I’m not sure it was actually words.

He looks right into the camera, presumably in an attempt to wave off the fall and give the impression that he’s no worse for wear before stumbling off.

I’ll also point out — almost every mainstream publication I came across attempted to make it sound like he simply jumped up and trotted off down the hall on his own power, completely unaided by anyone.

Which is verifiably untrue.

Even after taking several steps being helped by security and then taking a few on his own…

As soon as the one security guy walks back to his post, you see him again walking with help from his own security.

Here’s the full screen version of that clip for convenience:

McConnell was on his way to the Senate floor when the incident was captured, preparing to take part in votes on the government shutdown as was reported by ABC News:

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell, 83, fell to the ground in a Capitol hallway Thursday afternoon as he made his way to Senate votes.

McConnell, who announced in February that he would not seek reelection, fell to the floor while two volunteers from the environmental advocacy group Sunrise Movement approached the senator and asked him a question about Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions. He did not respond to the question.

The senator seemed unsteady, but got up and kept walking with the help of his detail. He then waved to the two individuals who were questioning him.

The Senate was taking a series of votes on Thursday related to the government shutdown, now on its 16th day. After the fall, McConnell voted and he is expected to vote late in the day as well.

McConnell is set to retire from a decadeslong political career at the conclusion of his term in January 2027. In 2024, he stepped down from his role as party leader after a record-breaking 18 years at the helm of the Republican conference.

I’ll remind you that earlier this year McConnell reportedly fell TWICE in the same day.

Once just outside the Senate Chamber, and again during a GOP luncheon.

CNN’s Senate Correspondent shared this image of McConnell being wheeled through the Senate building later that day in a wheelchair:

NBC’s Congressional correspondent snapped this more closeup view as McConnell was wheeled into the Senate Chamber following those two falls:

And I feel I must remind you in case anyone is forgetting just how often the elderly McConnell has FROZEN UP in front of cameras, mid-sentence.

Like this time in 2023 in the MIDDLE of a press conference:

I know he survived Polio as a kid, and I know he’s getting on up there.

But the point isn’t to attack the man for getting old and enduring through health problems…

The point is that he’s a US Senator expected to handle the rigors of a job with serious implications to the entire nation.

And in 2025, we KNOW how closely tied together mental and physical health is in the human body.

Besides — he isn’t just falling from physical frailty.

The numerous times he has simply frozen up while speaking makes it crystal clear that he isn’t just suffering from localized wobbly legs.

He’s having COGNITIVE ISSUES; and he has been for some time.

McConnell may not be the President of the United States, but it seems rather hypocritical to carry on about Biden (as we should!) and yet suffer a high-ranking Senator to suffer on camera in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY — for years — without demanding his resignation!

We should have never gotten to this point.

Senate Republicans should have NEVER allowed someone suffering from so many obvious cognitive and physiological ailments to continue in that level of national leadership.

Even when the true depth of Biden’s health was coming to light at the beginning of this year, it was well known that McConnell wasn’t up to the task any longer, as was reported back in February in this story in USA Today:

Former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell fell twice on Wednesday and was escorted out of the Capitol in a wheelchair as a precautionary measure.

The longtime leader, 82, is a survivor of childhood polio and has had multiple health issues in recent years.

McConnell first fell on the stairs near the Senate chamber midday and a second time during the Republican conference lunch in the same wing of the Capitol.

In 2023, McConnell froze twice in front of reporters months after breaking a rib and suffering a concussion from another fall. He fell two other times that year.

His health issues prompted questions about his continued fitness to serve, alongside other aging lawmakers such as former President Joe Biden and the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

McConnell was the longest-serving party leader in Senate history, holding the position from 2007 to 2024. He stepped down from the position at the end of last year and was succeeded by Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D.

As noted in that article, McConnell rightly decided not to seek another term…

And even stepped down from his leadership position in 2024.

But here we are in September 2025…

And his current term doesn’t end until the beginning of 2027, as was reported by the Fox News affiliate in DC when McConnell made the announcement last year:

The fact that McConnell stepped down as Senate Majority Leader should not have been enough.

It’s as if that move alone somehow solved the problem.

The problem is that an 83-year-old who frequently freezes up and stumbles over thin air is STILL an acting US Senator!

Haven’t we learned our lesson from watching Biden go unchecked year after year with obvious failing health?

Enough is enough.  McConnell should have stepped down as soon as he was caught on camera freezing up — should have been REMOVED from his position by the Senate if necessary.

But still… no term limits, and McConnell continues on as if there’s nothing wrong and he’s as healthy as a young horse.

But he’s not.  And therefore, the U.S. Senate is MADE WEAKER as a result.

I’ll be the first one to argue that we need to take better care of our aging citizens.  America should be the shining example of how to honor and care for our older citizenry.

But that doesn’t mean allowing them to hold positions of import when they are physically and cognitively going down — LITERALLY — right before our eyes.

I feel terrible that McConnell’s health is failing him.  But like so many said in the wake of Biden…

At some point, the responsibility should not be left up to him alone.

If McConnell won’t step away NOW, it’s time for Senate Republicans to take that decision out of his hands — for his own good, and that of the country.
