#1 Contender for California Governor FLIPS OUT on Trump Question: “Don’t Want All This On Camera”

The top polling contender in the race to become California’s next Governor just threw a wrench into her own campaign.

By every account she royally bombed a CBS interview that has now gone viral by FLIPPING OUT over a simple question about Trump voters.

She apparently did so much damage that a Pro-Trump Republican is now LEADING her in the polls!

I know, I know — polls lie.  Unreliable.

And the wild-west style of elections in Cali make it even more complicated because every candidate gets tossed in the ring together regardless of party affiliation during primaries.

Nevertheless, Katie Porter was hitting 6%+ leads over her nearest primary competitor just a few weeks ago in several polls.

Even with California’s wild primaries, dropping behind a competitor after sitting at a 6% lead is NEVER good news.

So let’s get right to the clip that has garnered millions of views in under 24 hours.

Here’s the 3-minute clip during which Katie Porter almost bolts from the room multiple times, as shared by the CBS reporter who conducted the interview:

Here’s a full screen version of that clip for backup purposes and for easier viewing:

I’ll throw out a teaser.

One of the first social media posts I saw regarding this catastrophic interview came from Megyn Kelly, who asked a simple question:

The teaser is simple — yes… there exists a veritable plethora of terrible interviews featuring the (former) top polling contender for the Governorship of California.

And I’ll bring you some of the best at the bottom of this story — promise!  (And there are some doozies!)

But first let’s dig into this complete dumpster fire.

To begin with… did you catch the moment where the regret kicks in when Porter realizes every bit of her melt down has been captured on film?

She also expressed shock at what appears to be the FIRST TIME (Is that possible???) that she was ever forced to take real questions during an interview, as was covered in this report from the New York Post:

California gubernatorial hopeful Katie Porter snapped and tried to storm out of an interview after being asked a simple question about President Trump — with the Democrat raging “I don’t want this all on camera.”

Footage of the bizarre encounter, which aired on Monday and quickly went viral, captured Porter flipping out when Watts asked how she planned to win Republican votes as she tries to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“What do you say to the 40% of California voters, who you’ll need in order to win, who voted for Trump?” asked Watts.

After a brief back-and-forth during which a testy Porter insisted she could build support and would seek every vote possible, the Democrat’s facade suddenly cracked.

“Every other candidate has answered this question,” Watts insisted. “This is not argumentative.”

When Watts repeated her question, Porter began trying to take off her microphone.

“I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m going to call it,”she said.

“I don’t want this all on camera,” Porter later added before claiming “I’ve never had to do this before” — a claim some critics took as evidence she has never undergone an adversarial interview.

The 51-year-old has developed a reputation for having a bad temper when she doesn’t get her way. (Emphasis added.)

One question that comes to mind is whether or not Katie Porter even understands how an election works.

She talks a good game — if you count being a bully and expressing more Alpha genes than a silverback Gorilla during mating season.

But beneath the bravado and repeating the “I’m a leader” mantra, she simply doesn’t appear to understand the basic precepts of an election.

The simple question asked by CBS journalist Julie Watts about what Porter would say to win over some of the 40% of California voters who sided with President Trump during the presidential election COMPLETELY threw her off.

And she never recovered.

It wasn’t even a math question.  It was a “what would you say” to them question.

But it was almost as if the mere mention of percentages caused her to get flustered.

Or… was it the mere mention of President Trump?

The question that sparked her implosion relied upon the presumption (accurately so, according to the standard of REALITY) that some portion of those Trump voters would have to swing their votes her way… if she were to have a shot at the Governor’s mansion.

Was the sound of President Trump’s name and the audacious presumption that SHE might need Trump supporters enough to short-circuit all her synapses?

Maybe.

Whatever the root cause, her performance definitely sent shockwaves through the gubernatorial race.

Whereas she WAS polling ahead of Republican Steve Hilton by 6% points, she is now TRAILING him.

Hilton shared this graphic following Porter’s now infamous interview debacle going viral:

Suddenly the script flipped, with Porter playing catchup behind her nearest competitor — Republican Steve Hilton — according to several new polls referenced by Newsweek:

Katie Porter’s chances of winning the California gubernatorial election have suffered a blow, according to a new poll.

According to polling by Zogby Strategies, while the Democrat is leading among other Democrats ahead of the upcoming primary for the election, she is behind a Republican candidate, conservative commentator Steve Hilton, by six percentage points. This suggests that if the two advance to the gubernatorial election, Hilton might beat Porter.

California will elect its next governor in 2026 when Gavin Newsom, who has served in the role since 2019, will see his term end. The state uses a jungle primary system, where all candidates, regardless of political party, run on a single ballot for the primary. The two candidates with the most support advance to the general election.

California, the nation’s most populous state, is reliably Democratic. It backed former Vice President Kamala Harris by 20 points last November and hasn’t elected a Republican governor since Arnold Schwarzenegger served between 2003 and 2011. Therefore, any signs that Porter, who is running for the governorship after an unsuccessful Senate bid last year, is seeing a decline in support, will concern Democrats.

An Emerson College poll from August showed Porter leading the primary for California governor with 18 percent, followed by Hilton at 12 percent, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco at 7 percent, and former Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at 5 percent.

A Citrin Center/Politico poll earlier in August showed Porter with 21 percent, Bianco with 15 percent, Hilton with 10 percent. It surveyed 1,445 registered voters from July 28 to August 12.

California’s primary is scheduled for June 2026. The gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place on November 3, 2026.

Is that enough to say that she just crashed her chances of winning, and a Pro-Trump Republican is going to become the next Governor of California?

Not definitively; after all, this is a California election we’re talking about, with 8 months before the Primary is held.

But there’s a chance.

We’ll be watching that race like a hawk as things develop — and we’ll bring you all the pertinent updates as it plays out.

But as promised, I found some of the most ridiculous PREVIOUS interviews that Katie Porter has ever given.

I highly doubt this is all of them… because honestly, these were too easy to find.

Thanks to Megyn Kelly for putting a slew of internet sleuths on the trail to find these!

You might remember this moment just after President Trump’s 2024 victory when she describes her 12-year-old daughter’s fear that she MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO GET AN ABORTION if she’s RAPED —

…Because Trump won.

(YOU can’t make this stuff up, but a sociopathic nut job who instills unreasonable FEAR into their own kids for political reasons… can.)

Here’s that clip:

But wait… there’s more!

Check out this clip from an MSNBC appearance when she argues that inflation (you know… Bidenflation) is EVEN MORE REASON to have the ‘right’ to kill babies:

How about this clip in which she relates another question from her 9-year-old daughter who (again — I think there’s a pattern here) has an unreasonable fear.

What parent in their right mind responds to a child’s terrifyingly FALSE fear by asking them how they “feel”?:

Last but not least, check out this crazy clip captured on C-SPAN back in 2022.

This is Katie Porter incredulously dismissing the idea that a pedophile is a CRIMINAL ISSUE — and stating clear as day that it’s just an “identity” issue:

The CBS interview with Julie Watts is currently the target catching all the arrows being thrown Porter’s way.

But which is actually worse — that interview, or the fact that she’s sitting near the top of the heap in California’s election for Governor to begin with?

It doesn’t take a lot of research to discover clip after clip of bombastic and ridiculous things spewing forth — unfazed by logic, reason, or basic knowledge — out of her mouth.

If she continues to tank beyond this point, that interview will always be known as the moment the ship capsized.

But if, God forbid, she somehow comes out on top to become the next Governor of California…

At every failed step we’ll be reminded by the internet’s memory just how many reasons Californians had to thwart that dumpster fire from spreading any further before it happened.
