Two Killed In Stabbing Outside U.K. Synagogue On The Jewish Holiday Of Yom Kippur

What an absolute heinous act.

Two people were killed in a stabbing that occurred outside of a synagogue in Manchester, England.

The deadly attack comes as millions of Jewish people around the globe are celebrating Yom Kippur.

Authorities in the U.K. have reported the suspect is now deceased.

NBC News had more details to report on the deadly attack:

Two people were killed and three others were seriously injured Thursday, after a man rammed a car into a crowd and stabbed people at a synagogue in the northern English city of Manchester.

It came as worshippers observed Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the two deaths in a statement on X, and said that the suspect was “believed to be deceased.”

Police initially said they couldn’t confirm the suspect’s death because of “suspicious items” on the body which were being dealt with by bomb disposal officers. But the force later confirmed he had died at the scene.

Police were called to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, in a part of north Manchester known for its large Jewish community, at 9:31 a.m. local time (4:31 a.m. ET). Police said a witness described seeing “a car being driven towards members of the public and one man had been stabbed.”

Minutes later, police said a man “believed to be the offender” had been shot by officers.

Police said the incident may have been worse, had a quick-thinking member of the congregation not stopped the suspect from entering the building.

This is the suspect who on Thursday used a knife to take the lives of two people outside a synagogue in Manchester, England.

He had bombs strapped to him and was ultimately neutralized by police.

BBC confirmed the suspect was shot dead by police:

Police in Manchester confirm that three people have died, including the suspect, who was shot by firearms officers.

To recap, police earlier said two people had died following the attack and that a third – thought to be the attacker – was presumed dead but this couldn’t be confirmed due to “suspicious items on his person”.

Three other people are in a serious condition.
