U.S. Naval Academy In Annapolis On LOCKDOWN, Gunshots Reported

What is going on in our country?

The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, has gone on full lockdown mode after a gunman reportedly opened fire on campus.

The Academy went on lockdown after a midshipman who was kicked out of the school returned to campus with a gun.

Gunshots were reported inside one of the buildings on campus.

Fox News broke the story and reported that there have been several injured:

The U.S. Naval Academy is on lockdown after a midshipman who had been kicked out of the school returned to campus armed with a weapon, multiple sources inside the U.S. Naval Academy tell Fox News.

Gunshots were heard inside Bancroft Hall, which houses the midshipmen. One victim was transported via medical helicopter, and multiple other victims were being assessed.

However, according to an internal email obtained by Fox News from Capt. David Forman, deputy commandant of midshipmen, a midshipman mistook authorized law enforcement as a threat, engaged and was injured in the process. The email said the midshipman is stable and receiving medical attention.

One official on campus said, “The shooter is knocking on doors pretending to be a military policeman.”

“Secretary Phelan is aware of the situation and has been receiving up-to-the-minute updates from NCIS and USNA leadership. USNA is on lockdown out of abundance of caution,” a Navy official told Fox News Digital. “This is an ongoing situation, and we will provide updates as they become available.”

“Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy,” NSAA PAO, Lt. Naweed Lemar, told Fox News. “The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation, and we will provide updates as they become available.”

A Defense Department official also confirmed the agency is aware of the lockdown at the campus, adding officials “are monitoring the situation with the Navy. Secretary Hegseth has been briefed.”

NBC Washington, however, has reported that it appears the entire situation may have been a misunderstanding:

A midshipman was shot at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland Thursday evening as law enforcement responded to reports of threats made to the military school, a source told NBC News.

There is no active shooter, the source said.

The midshipman was sheltering in place on the Annapolis campus when they mistook a member of law enforcement as a threat and hit them with a training weapon, said the source, who was on campus at the time of the lockdown. Police responded by shooting the midshipman.
