President Trump Announces He’s SUING California, Gov. Newsom Responds

President Trump made a big announcement from inside the Oval Office on Monday.

While addressing members of the press, President Trump revealed he plans to sue the state of California through the DOJ.

The lawsuit will be filed to combat Governor of California Gavin Newsom’s recent attempt to draw anew congressional map that favors Democrats.

NBC News reported more on Trump’s move to sue California and how he plans to do it:

President Donald Trump said Monday that the Department of Justice will sue California over Gov. Gavin Newsom’s efforts to draw a new, Democratic-leaning congressional map.

The redistricting push in California was ignited by a similar effort underway in Texas to gerrymander key House districts to more heavily favor Republicans.

“I think I’m going to be filing a lawsuit pretty soon, and I think we’re going to be very successful in it,” Trump said of Newsom’s redistricting push during a lengthy press event in the Oval Office.

“We’re going to be filing it through the Department of Justice. That’s going to happen,” he said.

The Hill reported more on Trump’s potential lawsuit:

President Trump during a winding press event Monday at the White House vowed to file lawsuits against California over its plan to redraw the state’s congressional lines and against the use of blue slips in the Senate.

The president told reporters a lawsuit will be filed “soon” after California’s Democratic-controlled Legislature formally approved Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-Calif.) plan Thursday to redraw the state’s congressional lines, setting it up to appear on the ballot in November.

“You’ll be hearing about the blue slipping. Because if you have — you don’t need two senators, you just need one Democrat senator with a Republican,” he added.
