TRUMP BRINGS HAWK AND NEGOTIATOR TO PUTIN SUMMIT
The addition of Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff might reshape the tone and strategy behind closed doors.
Rubio, now serving as Secretary of State and interim National Security Advisor, has a long record of tough rhetoric on Russia.
Witkoff, a trusted Trump envoy, brings a quieter familiarity with Putin from prior meetings, adding a pragmatic counterweight to Rubio’s hardline stance.
Tensions are already high, with many Americans saying on X they’re praying for President Trump as global attention turns to what comes next on Ukraine.
We don’t know yet if Vladimir Putin will bring in any of his advisors, as well.
News — A White House official confirms Trump’s one-on-one with Putin is no longer happening. Instead it will be a three-on-three, with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio joining Trump. Not clear who will join Putin from the Russian side.

Notably, many of President Trump’s previous meetings with Putin did not include anyone else.
Politico reported:
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are moments away from meeting in Alaska — a summit that no longer will include just the two of them.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said just after Trump landed in Anchorage at 10:20 a.m. local time that Trump plans to bring Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff with him into the room with Putin.
It was not immediately clear if the Russian side was caught off guard by the announcement or if Putin will seek to bring his foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, or other advisers with him for the meeting.
Following the summit, President Trump and Vladimir Putin will go to a lunch meeting with several other top Trump officials.
Here’s who will be present at that lunch:
