Homeless encampments in Washington, D.C. are now being cleared out and literally bulldozed as part of President Trump’s effort to restore the beauty of our nation’s capital.

What a novel idea. You can just bulldoze illegal tent cities and be gone with them in one swoop!

Big city mayors should take note of this.

USA Today reported:

Under the blazing summer sun, people living in Washington’s homeless encampments packed up their belongings before authorities moved in with garbage trucks on Aug. 14, as President Donald Trump’s crackdown on the nation’s capital ramps up.

At an encampment a few miles from the Lincoln Memorial and the Kennedy Center, a group of about 8 people broke down their tents and stuffed their clothes in garbage bags with the help of city workers and local homeless advocacy groups. The tents that remained – and everything in them – were soon bulldozed and taken to a landfill.

“(The president) is targeting us and persecuting us,” said David Beatty, a homeless man living in the encampment that Trump posted a photo of on social media last week. “He wants to take our freedom away.”

The moves come days after Trump assumed federal control of the city’s police department and mobilized the National Guard, declaring a “crime emergency” and vowing to clear homeless people off the streets of DC. As more federal agents and National Guard troops are brought into Washington, local officials and social workers have sought to get ahead of the anticipated operations.

The push to clear encampments also comes as cities across the United States, including longtime Democratic strongholds such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, have also seen an increase in homeless sweeps and encampment closures.

This is just the beginning.

Tonight, the Trump administration has plans to clear out even more homeless encampments in D.C.

D.C. homeless advocates are bracing for a big federal sweep of encampments across the city Thursday evening, according to multiple reports.

The big picture: Encampment clearings are already underway amid President Trump’s federal takeover of D.C., and White House officials have warned that people experiencing homelessness who refuse to leave could face fines or jail time.

• Advocates say forced removals could have detrimental impacts on homeless individuals, and that Trump’s directives are murky and leave little information for next steps in a city with limited shelter space.

The latest: A spokesperson for D.C.’s deputy mayor for Health and Human Services tells Axios that the city is “tracking possible federal enforcement efforts planned for [Thursday night].”

• “The District has worked proactively with homeless residents ahead of these actions to provide services and offers of shelter. Impacted residents who seek shelter will not be turned away. The District is able to expand capacity as needed.”

Of course, liberals are in full meltdown mode, claiming callous President Trump is now persecuting poor homeless people who have nowhere else to live.

What they fail to realize is that what’s truly heartless is allowing homeless people to rot in squalor instead of giving them the resources they need to get back up on their feet.

And, that’s exactly what President Trump is going.

As Karoline Leavitt announced, homeless people will be offered a place in a homeless shelter and services to help with any addiction or mental health issues.

If they refuse and don’t want assistance, then existing laws will be enforced.
