Governor Of Kentucky Says He’s Open To The Idea Of Running For President In 2028

The Governor of Kentucky has revealed he’s open to running for president in 2028.

In a recent interview, Democrat Governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear shared that he’s not ruling out a presidential run.

In the interview, Beshear shared that he previously wasn’t looking to run but may now consider launching a campaign.

NBC News had more details to share on Beshear’s possible presidential campaign:

Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., would not rule out running for president in 2028, telling “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker that he may “take a look” at launching a bid.

“I would have never considered this a couple years ago, but I will not leave a broken country to my kids or to anyone else’s,” Beshear said Sunday. “And so if I’m somebody that at that point, that I believe that I can heal the country, then then I’ll take a look at it.”

Beshear, who was first elected governor in 2019, won re-election in 2023, becoming a rare Democrat to govern a ruby-red state, where 64.5% of voters cast ballots for President Donald Trump in 2024.

Asked whether he was running for president, Beshear said, “What I’m doing right now is trying to be a reasonable voice out there that hopefully doesn’t just bring Democrats back together, but Democrats, Republicans and independents.”

“This country has gotten far too partisan, too much ‘us versus them.’ If we can focus on the core issues that lift up every single American, then we can actually move not right or left, but forward as a country,” Beshear added.

Beshear made similar statements back in June:

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk shared that Beshear would be the hardest Democrat for Republicans to beat:

As a Democrat, Beshear has managed to win over Republican voters in Kentucky, a deep red state.

NPR had these details to report on his last re-election win:

Kentucky voters have reelected Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, according to the Associated Press.

Beshear beat Republican state Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

“Tonight, Kentucky made a choice,” Beshear told voters in his victory speech. “A choice not to move to the right or to the left but to move forward for every single family.”

The contest had been closely followed, as Beshear fought to hold onto the governorship in the deep red state against Cameron. Issues like abortion access, the state of the economy and culture war topics dominated the race.

Cameron tried to use his endorsement from former President Donald Trump and Kentuckians’ high disapproval of President Biden to propel him across the finish line.
