The operation, carried out by the Civil Guard, was launched after officers tracked two suspicious speedboats to a rural property near Seville.

The drugs were hidden in two sea freight containers buried underground at a farm in Coria del Rio, a municipality located south of the city of Seville.

Authorities released video footage showing officers digging up the ground and recovering dozens of packages of the alleged cocaine.

The Civil Guard confirmed that the seizure was the largest of its kind in southern Spain, involving cocaine smuggled by speedboat. Alongside the drugs, police also confiscated three weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle, and two stolen vehicles.

The operation began last week when authorities spotted the two speedboats near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River. The boats were tracked to the rural estate, where the drugs were found hidden underground.

Spain’s location near Morocco, a major producer of cannabis, and its ties to Latin American countries make it a key entry point for drug traffickers into Europe.

In a separate incident last month, Spanish authorities arrested a senior police officer after discovering 20 million euros hidden inside his home, linked to the country’s largest-ever cocaine bust, according to CBS news.
