Jamal Simmons, a former aide to Kamala Harris, recently joined a CNN panel to discuss the aftermath of last week’s presidential election.
During the segment, he presented a strategy that would make Harris the first female president, if only temporarily, despite her astounding loss to Donald Trump on Election Day.

Others, including the host, seemed skeptical if not derisive.
As the Daily Caller reported:
“This has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning show,” “State of the Union” co-host Dana Bash said, while Republican strategist Scott Jennings joked that Simmons came up with a plotline for the Netflix series “House of Cards.”
Biden revealed he would not accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in a July 21 post on X, following it up with a second post endorsing Harris for the Democratic nomination to replace him in the 2024 election against Trump.
“This is something that is in Joe Biden’s control and if he did it, again, it would fulfill his promise and give Kamala Harris the chance to be the 47th president of the United States of America,” Simmons claimed. “It would trump all of Donald Trump’s paraphernalia, he would have to rebrand everything. And it would make it easier for the next woman who runs for president, to not have to worry about the horrible weight of being the first.”

Joe Biden has been amazing but he should fulfill one last promise – to be transitional. Biden should resign and make Kamala Harris the first woman president. It’d turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over Jan 6 make it easier for next woman to run. #trailblazepodcast

The clip, along with the argument Simmons made, sparked significant social media discussion:
The Democrats now want Biden to resign the presidency to Kamala so she can be the first woman president even though she lost.
Just when you think they can’t get any crazier.

The Hill provided additional coverage of the context surrounding Simmons’ remarks:
“He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States,” he continued, drawing shocked reactions from others.
President Biden dropped out of this year’s race for the White House in late July, following a rising tide of concern about his age and mental fitness that came in the wake of a rough debate performance against President-elect Trump a month before. Harris then took his position at the top of the ticket, but eventually lost to Trump a few months later.
Simmons said Harris stepping into her boss’s role “would make sure that it would dominate the news, at a point where Democrats have to learn drama and transparency and doing things the public will wanna see.”
Harris’s loss to Trump and the loss of control of the Senate in the 2024 elections has rattled Democrats, many of whom view the president-elect as a threat to democracy.
