Whereabouts Unknown!? Chinese Students Caught Spying On Military, Then Released!

Five Chinese nationals were recently arrested and charged after one of the men was stopped and questioned attempting to leave the country.  The other four men were arrested upon their re-arrival into the U.S. from a trip to Iceland.

All five of the men were listed on the 2023 Dean’s Honor List at the University of Michigan.

The former University of Michigan students were all charged with running a cover-up of their alleged spying operation on a National Guard training center for the People’s Republic of China, according to a Fox News report.  Fox is also reporting that the Taiwanese military was taking part in the training op at the time.

Five former University of Michigan students have been charged after they were caught allegedly covering up spying on a National Guard training center in Michigan for the People’s Republic of China (PRC) while a training operation with the Taiwanese military was taking place.

The former students, all Chinese nationals, were confronted by a sergeant major of the Utah National Guard in August 2023 after midnight near a lake at Camp Grayling, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Oct. 1.

They told the sergeant major they were with the media photographing a meteor shower and believed they were in a campground. They then took their belongings and left.

I highly suspect that it was during this time that the FBI counter surveillance investigation was ongoing against the spying operation, because it would be another four months, according to the same Fox News report, before the men would be questioned.

But four months later, one of the men, Renxiang Guan, was interviewed by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport before traveling to South Korea and China.

He told investigators he and others had taken a trip to northern Michigan to see shooting stars, but he was unable to recall where they went.

CBP officers then searched his electronic devices and found images of the Grayling Military Installation, including military vehicles and other equipment. The data from an external hard drive showed the photographs had been taken during the time that live firing exercises were taking place, around two hours before the sergeant major encountered the students.

The other four men were interviewed in March after arriving in Chicago on a flight from Iceland. They told investigators they too were in northern Michigan in August 2023, but it was to see a meteor shower, according to court documents citing the FBI.

WeChat messages in a group chat among the Chinese nationals discussed clearing photos from their cameras and phones.

I’d like to remind you of the information provided by Gordon Chang while being interviewed along with Newt Gingrich back in July of 2023.

Gordon Chang has long warned against the coming wars involving China and the U.S. and he had this to say about the cross-border incursions making news about this time last year by military aged Chinese nationals specifically operating on U.S. soil for Chinese military purposes.

The following video was captured in March of 2023, and shows the processing of Chinese nationals caught crossing the Southern U.S. border illegally.  These Chinese military-aged men were then released, UNVETTED, back into the United States — in this case, into Texas.  Besides the “legal” entry into the U.S. that the 5 men used to gain access to the United States, the illegal border crossings by Chinese military-aged men is on the rise, big time.

The increasing level of Chinese military-related actions on U.S. soil is very concerning to me.  But while Gordon highlighted the link between illegal incursions by Chinese nationals and a potential future conflict with China, the current arrest of five former University of Michigan students highlights the other side of the coin — covert PLA operations in the U.S. employing “legal” means of getting into the U.S.

Amazingly, the men are NOT CHARGED for the alleged spying on the military exercises, according to a current Associated Press news report on the situation.  They are being accused simply of misleading investigators about the purpose of their trip, and conspiring to clear their phones of photos.

THEY ARE NOT EVEN IN CUSTODY AT THIS TIME!

The five, who were University of Michigan students at the time, were not charged for what happened at Camp Grayling in August 2023. Rather they are accused of misleading investigators about the trip and conspiring to clear their phones of photos, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court.

The FBI noted in the Tuesday court filing that there have been instances of college students from China taking photos of vital defense sites in the United States.

There was nothing in the file revealing the whereabouts of the five men.

“The defendants are not in custody. Should they come into contact with U.S. authorities, they will be arrested and face these charges,” Gina Balaya, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit, said Wednesday.

I hope you caught that, and I hope you’re as angry about it as I am.  Not only were the men not actually charged with spying, but apparently they are NOT currently in U.S. custody… but, “will be arrested and face these charges” if they happen to come into contact with U.S. authorities!?

Is Kamala Harris DIRECTLY in charge of this case?  How asinine can you get — you catch 5 Chinese men spying on joint U.S. / Taiwanese military training ops, TAKING PHOTOS, and then lying about it and trying to scrub the evidence from their phones!? AND YOU LET THEM GO!?

They wonder why “we the people” are so fed up and angry.  Do they really not know?  Or do they simply not CARE?

This is a continuing story, and I will bring you further updates as they happen.
