It’s pretty obvious that Meghan McCain isn’t on Team Trump, and her father, the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) likely wouldn’t support the former president this time around either.
But that doesn’t mean he would have gotten in line behind Kamala Harris, his daughter asserted after the Democratic nominee seemed to suggest as much during a recent speech.
According to the Daily Caller:
During a campaign stop in Arizona, Harris claimed to supporters that the late senator allegedly told her she’d make a “great senator” after a heated committee hearing. On “2Way Tonight,” McCain told host Mark Halperin that while politicians often reference her father, she wasn’t “thrilled” with Harris sharing a story she doesn’t believe “sounds like him.”
“Everybody does it on both sides. I’m really — I’m not thrilled with this, because I just find that — maybe it did happen. To me, it doesn’t sound like him … Democrats really want to turn my dad into a progressive liberal that like, six years after his death, he’s now just the most liberal progressive that ever existed when he’s one of the most conservative senators in American modern history,” McCain began.
“I think it’s because he’s still so popular in Arizona, even now and there’s data and polling and research that’s been done by polling institutes and the McCain Institute that shows that around 14% people in Arizona who are Republicans consider themselves McCain Republicans,” McCain said. “So I’m sure that’s what she’s going for, and those are people who are obviously not Trumpers.”
Harris’ surrogates have already touted the fact that John McCain’s son has endorsed the far-left vice president:

Her remarks about the elder McCain significant social media discussion:
NEW: Meghan McCain rips Kamala Harris for apparently making up a story about how John McCain told her she would "make a great senator."
The comments came during an interview with @MarkHalperin after Harris told a crowd about how much McCain loved her.

Here’s some additional coverage of McCain’s reaction, per Fox News:
While speaking to the crowd, Harris then commended the late Arizona senator and called him an “incredible American hero.” But Meghan McCain found the story dubious and publicly addressed it on X Friday night.
“Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for… But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris,” McCain wrote.
“And consider this my final warning shot, I will start spilling tea.”
On Saturday, McCain called her critics “lunatics” in response to the backlash.
“A lot of really triggered democrats in my timeline who claim they know more about my dad than well…. his daughter,” she wrote. “Get a grip on reality, you lunatics.”
