‘A Very Dangerous Game’: President Trump Shares Lighthearted Response To Latest Assassination Attempt

For someone who has been the target of apparent assassination attempts on at least two recent occasions, President Donald Trump hasn’t lost his sense of humor.

During a recent appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Gutfeld,” he reacted to the most recent incident, which reportedly involved a shooter near where he was playing golf earlier this week.

According to the New York Post:

Trump, 78, yukked it up with the co-hosts of Fox News’ “Gutfeld!” in an appearance taped hours before his raucous campaign rally on Long Island.

“Well Mr. P, how’s your golf game?” comedian Greg Gutfeld asked the former president.

“Well, I haven’t been thinking about it too much lately,” Trump responded. “I always said golf is a very dangerous game.”

“Especially if they’re playing with you,” Gutfeld quipped.

“Yeah, it’s true,” Trump said. “It’s pretty sad.”

The 45th president dodged a second attempt on his life Sunday after Secret Service agents spotted a rifle barrel poking out of some bushes along one of the holes of his Palm Beach, Fla., golf course, as Trump was on a green a few hundred yards away from the sniper.

“If they had told you that the shooter was there would you have tried to take him out with your 3 wood?” Gutfeld later asked Trump.

“I think so,” Trump responded. “If I knew.”

A trove of information and speculation has swirled on social media regarding the incident on Sunday:

Following criticism of Secret Service agents working at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally where Trump was shot earlier this year, he had praise for those tasked with protecting him during Sunday’s attempt on his life.

According to The Hill:

“And, in this particular case, you had a very sharp agent, as good as you could find, and did a fantastic job,” Trump said Tuesday night in an interview on Fox News’s “Hannity.”

“But somebody could have missed the barrel of that rifle,” he told the host Sean Hannity. “Somebody of lesser talents or somebody that was distracted could have missed or could have been shot, I mean, frankly, could have also been shot.”

Trump said the incident at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla., “worked out very well” but stated the incident at a campaign rally in Butler, Pa., where a gunman killed one and wounded two attendees before he was shot down by Secret Service earlier this summer, was a “very different story.”

“Now, Butler’s a very different story,” Trump said. “Somebody should have been on that building. And that’s a different story. But they also showed great … they were very brave, because, when those bullets were flying, they were … they were … trying to protect me.”
