JUST IN: Democrat Governor Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that she was diagnosed with skin cancer during a press conference on Thursday.

“My doctor discovered a basal cell carcinoma,” Hochul said, according to CBS News.

She called it a “tiny, tiny speck” on her nose.

“You can’t even see it,” she said.

Hochul said she will have a procedure Friday.

“I’m going to have a small removal procedure. I’m not going under. It’s local anesthesia. It will be occurring Friday morning. I’ll be back to work an hour later, but there will be a bandage on my nose,” she said, according to CBS News.

Per CBS News:

The governor said it’s a diagnosis common in her family. She is encouraging everyone to get regular check-ups and to take the proper measures to protect your skin.

From The Hill:

People of all skin tones can develop basal cell carcinoma, but those with light skin that rarely tans, light eyes and red or blonde hair have the highest risk of developing the disease, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

The cancer tends to grow slowly and while typically not life-threatening, if left untreated, it can “wrap around nerves and blood vessels” and spread to muscle and bone, according to the association’s website.

Some early signs of the cancer are a slowly growing, “non-healing spot that sometimes bleeds,” or a slightly raised area of irritated skin.

“I encourage everyone to make sure that they do get regular checkups and follow through,” Hochul said.

In recent days, Hochul heavily pushed the experimental COVID-19 shots.

“Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the new COVID-19 vaccine for the 2024-2025 season is now available in New York State. The Governor encouraged all eligible New Yorkers — especially those who are 65 and older, are at risk for severe COVID-19, or have never received a COVID-19 vaccine — to get the vaccine as students return to school, and ahead of the respiratory illness season,” Hochul’s office stated last week.

“The Governor and New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald also announced the Commissioner’s standing order allowing all eligible New Yorkers to receive the new COVID-19 vaccine at any pharmacy in New York State without a prescription from their individual health care provider,” it added.

“Now is the time to get the new COVID-19 vaccine to help protect your family and your community,” Hochul said.

“As in years’ past, we’re putting health first and making it easy for all eligible New Yorkers to get the new vaccine at any pharmacy statewide,” she added.
