An Air New Zealand aircraft had to evacuate passengers upon landing due to an engine fire.
“Air New Zealand ATR 72-600 evacuates on the runway at Wellington Airport after smoke could be seen coming from one of its engines while landing,” Breaking Aviation News & Videos wrote.
“Just after 4pm NZ5366 travelling from Christchurch to Wellington landed safely after smoke was seen coming from the engine,” Hugh Pearce, Air New Zealand Head of Flight Operations, said.
“The aircraft was met by emergency services and all passengers have disembarked safely. The cause of the incident is not yet known. We expect some disruptions to flights in Wellington as a result,” he added.

An Air New Zealand aircraft has made an emergency landing at Wellington Airport this afternoon after its engine caught fire.
Dramatic live video captured the ATR 72 aircraft’s approach with thick smoke billowing from an engine just after 4pm.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand were advised of the incident but were stood down upon arrival, saying “crash rire” teams had extinguished the blaze.
A livestream video of the incident shows passengers having to jump about a metre from the plane’s doors on to the tarmac.

“An Air New Zealand ATR 72-600 aircraft (ZK-MVL) powered by PW127M engine, had to stop on the Runway 34 while landing at Wellington Airport this afternoon after one of its engines faced issues, indicating a case fire. A video captured of the incident while the aircraft was about to touch down with thick smoke billowing from the left engine,” FL360aero wrote.
“The livestream video of the incident with flight NZ5366 from Christchurch (CHC) shows passengers jumped onto the tarmac to evacuate from the aircraft,” it added.

A live stream of the airport’s runway showed the propeller plane landing with a large plume of smoke emanating from its left-hand engine.
Several emergency vehicles could then be seen racing towards the plane after it came to a stop on the runway.
About two minutes after the plane came to a stop, passengers could be seen exiting the aircraft on the runway without the use of stairs, while being assisted by first responders.
The Civil Aviation Authority told rnz.co.nz they were alerted at 4.10pm of the flight calling “mayday” due to an engine fire.
1News understands most passengers have now been rebooked on flights after the runway was closed today following the incident.
