Police Rule Woman Who Died In Baggage Claim Carousel Committed Suicide


As WLT Report previously reported, a woman tragically died last Thursday morning at Chicago O’Hare Airport after getting stuck in a baggage carousel.

A 57-year-old woman died last week after getting stuck in a baggage carousel in Chicago.

The Department of Labor reported that the woman who got stuck was not a worker at O’Hare International Airport.

The Chicago Fire Department reported they received a call about a woman being “pinned in machinery” at 7:45 a.m.

Shortly after first responders arrived on the scene, the woman was pronounced dead.

A further investigation has revealed the woman has been identified as Christine Vinton, and her death has been ruled a suicide after she hung herself.

The cause of death for a North Carolina woman who was found ‘entangled’ in a baggage claim conveyor belt at Chicago O’Hare has been revealed.

The death of Christine Vinton, 57, of Waxhaw, Virginia, was ruled a suicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday.

She died by asphyxiation due to hanging, a spokesperson told The Chicago Tribune

The 57-year-old was found inside a restricted area in Terminal 5 shortly before 8am on Thursday where she was found unresponsive and ‘entangled’ in the conveyor belt.

Surveillance footage showed the woman entering the unoccupied area around 2:30am – five hours before her body was discovered.

Vinton was pronounced dead at the scene and was not an airport employee.

Authorities are saying that the woman found dead inside the baggage claim of a Chicago airport is being considered a suicide.

The 57-year-old woman was found “pinned” inside the baggage conveyor belt machinery at O’Hare International Airport on Thursday.

The medical examiner’s office has determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation from being hanged — declaring it a suicide, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
