Black Bear Mauls 3-Year-Old Sleeping In Tent Near Yellowstone

A black bear mauled a 3-year-old at a Montana campground located north of Yellowstone National Park over the weekend.

According to authorities, around 10:00 pm on Sunday night, a black bear mauled a 3-year-old girl who was sleeping inside a tent at a campground just north of Yellowstone.

The young girl survived the bear attack but is still in critical condition.

Wildlife officials have since captured the bear and have been euthanized.

A black bear was captured and euthanized in Montana after mauling a 3-year-old girl at a Montana campground north of Yellowstone Park on Sunday, authorities reported.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. local time on Sunday at a private campsite just south of Red Lodge when the bear attacked the child inside a tent, according to the Associated Press (AP), which cited the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) department.

The young girl was immediately rushed to a hospital in Billings, although her condition remains undisclosed as of Tuesday, according to Montana FWP.

Following the attack, the campground was then evacuated as officials set traps to capture the bear.

A black bear mauled and injured a 3-year-old girl in a tent at a private campground in Montana just north of Yellowstone National Park over the weekend, state wildlife officials said.

The girl was attacked about 10 p.m. Sunday at a campground south of Red Lodge and taken to the hospital in Billings. Fish, Wildlife and Parks didn’t have any information on her condition on Tuesday, game warden Randy Hutzenbiler said.

The campground was evacuated, and traps were placed in the area. A bear believed to have been involved was captured and shot on Monday afternoon, Hutzenbiler said.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks investigators found garbage, a cooler and human food around and inside the tent where the attack occurred, the agency said.
