Anyone paying attention to the details of the Manhattan criminal trial of former President Donald Trump can easily see the partisan bias on display.
From the fact that the statute of limitations has expired to the Democrat-dominated jurisdiction in which it is being held to the schedule that seems to be explicitly designed to keep Trump from campaigning for a second term in the White House, there’s plenty of evidence that something fishy is going on.
And conservative pundit Dan Bongino summed it all up in one recent social media post:
Lemme get this straight:
A democrat judge, with a daughter working for democrats, is presiding over a trial in a deeply democrat city, within a democrat state, brought by a democrat prosecutor, with an assistant prosecutor on loan from a democrat president’s DOJ, in a state with…— Dan Bongino (@dbongino) April 18, 2024
Of course, he’s not the only one with some serious misgivings about what’s going on in Judge Merchan’s courtroom.
Even anti-Trump sports commentator Stephen A. Smith described the trial as a political witch hunt, as The Hill reported:
As [a] primarily Democratic voter, the sports commentator said he is “utterly disgusted” with Trump’s criminal trial, which kicked off Monday with jury selection. Smith said he sees it as Democrats attempting to politicize the courts as they’re unable to stop the former president’s momentum in the polls.
“That appears to be their strategy, but I’m going to tell you, it’s not working. It’s not working at all,” Smith told Fox News’s Sean Hannity on Thursday. “And to be quite honest, I don’t mind the fact that it’s not working because I might not be a supporter of Donald Trump, but I want him to lose the right way.”
ADVERTISEMENT“I want him to lose because you have better ideas and you make your case to the American people better than he does. That’s why I want him to lose,” he continued, citing President Biden. “I don’t want him to lose the way they’re trying to make him lose.”
Here’s a sampling of some other critiques of the case against Trump:

As for the impact the trial will have on voters, some Senate Republicans think it might actually backfire on Democrats, per Newsmax:
“I actually think this particular case is so preposterous that it actively helps the president, and I’ve seen some polling to this effect,” said Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, The Hill reported.
Vance added that Manhattan Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg was endorsed by a liberal group that accepted money from major progressive donor George Soros.
“It’s the worst of all of the cases against Donald Trump in terms of fairness, and I actually think it drives home the idea that this is not about justice, this is about politics,” Vance said.
Even Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, a Trump critic, said the case will not change voters’ minds about Trump.
ADVERTISEMENT“I think people have processed the fact that Donald Trump paid a porn star and committed adultery and misreported that on his tax forms. I think people assume that’s the case, and it’s not going to move the needle,” Romney said, The Hill reported.
And Trump has shared his own thoughts with reporters this week as jury selection has gotten underway:
