Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced a major election integrity measure on Friday.
The bill, soon to be introduced by GOP lawmakers, would require individuals to provide proof of citizenship to vote—a common sense measure.
Johnson introduced the bill alongside President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago press event.
“Every single person who registers to vote in a Federal election must prove they’re an American citizen first.
Our bill would put us on par with virtually every other democracy around the world that also prohibits non-citizen voting,” Johnson stated on Friday.

Left-wing outlets like NBC News all decried the proposed election integrity measure with nearly identical rhetoric:
“It seems like common sense, I’m sure all of us would agree that we only want U.S. citizens to vote in U.S. elections,” Johnson said, falsely suggesting that “so many people” are registering to vote when they obtain welfare benefits.
It is already a crime to register or vote as a noncitizen in all state and federal elections, though Washington, D.C., and a handful of municipalities in California, Maryland and Vermont allow noncitizen voting in local elections.
Former Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy offered five simple tips to bolster election integrity and trust in the U.S. election system.
A simple message to the GOP: play to win.
1. Make Election Day a National Holiday
2. Single-Day Voting
3. Paper Ballots
4. Government-issued voter ID to match the voter file
5. English as the sole language that appears on a ballot pic.twitter.com/Kaf5J9yhg0— Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) April 12, 2024
Axios added:
Trump’s assurance that he stands “by the speaker” came as conservative firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has ratcheted up her attacks on Johnson in the latest display of GOP congressional dysfunction.
My favorite part was this little statement right here:
"…then I'll turn it back over to the President…"

I know he’s probably referring to him as “President” in the historic sense (once President, always President) but it was so nice to hear “President Trump” again instead of “Former President Trump”.
Can’t wait to see this man back in front on the camera holding Press Conferences like this every day for the next 4 years!
