Democrat incumbent Katie Rosenberg just lost the mayoral race in Wasau, WI to Republican Doug Diny, who beat her by 4.3%
Diny’s victory flipped the mayor seat Republican — a sign that could spell trouble for Biden’s election chances.
Before losing the race, Rosenberg was seen as a ‘rising star’ in the Democrat party, and her campaign spent more than DOUBLE to get her re-elected, compared to Diny.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported on Rosenberg’s surprising loss and what this could mean for Biden’s chances:
Katie Rosenberg lost the Wausau mayoral race, in a defeat that could indicate trouble for President Joe Biden’s reelection chances in Wisconsin.
Rosenberg had just under 48% of the vote in Wausau as of 9:48 p.m., while challenger Doug Diny had just over 52%. Slightly over 10,000 people voted in the mayoral election at that time.
The loss could represent trouble to come for Democratic candidates later this year, and in particular, Biden.
Rosenberg said the results were disappointing, but that she knows Wausau will still have good stewards.
“There’s a lot of work ahead, and I know with all the department heads, and with the City Council, everyone’s going to be great. Everyone is going to get the work done for the people of Wausau,” she said. “You know, sometimes it doesn’t go the way you want, and that’s just the way it is.”
The Washington Examiner also commented:
Katie Rosenberg, a rising Democratic star in Wisconsin, lost the Wausau mayoral race Tuesday evening to conservative challenger Doug Diny.
Diny, who was supported by Wisconsin GOP Chairman Brian Schimming, won the race 52.1% to the incumbent Rosenberg’s 47.9%, with just over 10,000 people voting in the election.
“Congratulations to WisGOP-backed Doug Diny on his triumph in the Wausau Mayoral election,” Schimming said in a statement Tuesday night. “His stunning victory over incumbent Mayor Katie Rosenberg marks an unmistakable repudiation of failed Democrat policies and is a win for Central Wisconsin values.”
Rosenberg’s loss is a warning sign for President Joe Biden in the crucial battleground state he won by roughly more than 20,000 votes, or less than 1 percentage point, in 2020 against former President Donald Trump.
