Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, died from a gunshot wound to the head, a coroner has revealed.
Kingston died at his parents’ home in a Cotswold village on Sunday.
Katy Skerrett, the senior coroner for Gloucestershire, opened an inquest into Kingston’s death.
She said Kingston had lunch with his parents before his father, Martin Kingston, took the dogs out for a walk.
Skerrett added: “On his return Mr Kingston was not in the house.”
Kingston’s mother went to look for him before his father forced entry into an outbuilding.
Skerrett said Kingston was found dead “with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene.”

Kingston’s sudden death was announced on Tuesday in a statement from his family.
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother,” read a statement from Kingston’s family following his death.
“Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family, and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”
The late financier and Lady Gabriella had been married since May 2019.
Gabriella, 42, is the daughter of Prince Michael of Kent, the late Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin — the latter of whom attended Gabriella’s nuptials with her husband, Prince Phillip, before the monarch’s death in September 2022.
Thomas and Middleton, Kate Middleton’s sister, ended their romance in 2011 but remained close friends.
Buckingham Palace was also notified about the equity analyst’s passing and released a statement on Tuesday.
