According to outage tracking website Downdetector, multiple cell phone carriers reported outages in the United States early Thursday.

Reuters reports:
The number of reports of AT&T outages peaked at 31,931 at around 4:30 a.m. ET, according to data from Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from sources including user-submitted errors on its platform, showed.
More than 800 service outages of U.S. wireless carriers Verizon and T-Mobile were also reported on the platform.

“911 operators have warned that the outage has impacted their ability to take calls,” Daily Mail noted.
The widespread cellular outages have some people questioning if a cyber attack was responsible.

Service disruptions were reported in Boston, Atlanta, Houston, New York, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, and Montreal.
Per Daily Mail:
The major cellphone companies have yet make any statement regarding the outages. It’s not clear what the caused of the problem.
Other smaller providers including Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular and Straight Talk also reported similar outages.
WSB-TV in Atlanta reports that this is the second time in a week that the region’s Verizon customers have experienced an outage.
ADVERTISEMENTIn Orlando, the city’s Fox-affiliate confirmed that its reporters in the field were having trouble making contact. While in Tampa, some users told WFLA that their phone service went out as early as 2am.
Customers in New Orleans reported that while calling was impossible, texting appeared to be working.
