‘Insurrection’ has become the most callously thrown-around word in the English language.
No insurrection took place on January 6th, 2021. Instead, what took place was that a peaceful protest turned rowdy—some might even say a riot. Call it a riot if you will, but an insurrection? Come on now.
This is like calling a Toyota Prius a rocket ship. In no way, shape, or form is a Toyota Prius a rocket ship, but anything is possible in a post-truth society.
So far, 21 states have seen 14th Amendment challenges attempting to remove President Trump from the ballot in 2024.
Four of those states have already flat-out declined to remove President Trump from the ballot, they include New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Florida, and Minnesota.
However, 14 states still have pending 14th Amendment challenges. Nevada, Wyoming, New York, Oregon, New Mexico, Alaska, Texas, Vermont, New Jersey, Maine, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
It remains to be seen how these states’ decisions will be impacted by the recent Colorado Supreme Court ruling. Here’s what conservatives are saying about the partisan 14th Amendment challenges:

The Colorado Supreme Court ignored the facts of the January 6th riot. They ignored the law under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and 150 years of controlling precedent.

ABC News reported:
Judges in Michigan and Minnesota over the past two weeks have ruled that Trump, the 2024 Republican primary front-runner, can be on the ballot in both states, dismissing lawsuits filed by citizens and watchdog organizations that claimed the former president should be barred because of his actions around the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol
Collin Rugg shared this video of Joe Biden’s response to the Colorado Supreme Court decision and remarked:
“President Biden refuses to condemn the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to ban Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment and says Trump “absolutely” supported an insurrection.
The U.S. looks more and more like Communist China by the day. The comment from Biden came after a reporter asked about the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision.
Biden said there is “no question” Trump supported an insurrection and said he was fine with letting “the court make that decision” on if the 14th Amendment applies.”

Fact check: Trump didn't engage in insurrection/rebellion — plus the relevant 14th Amendment clause doesn't apply to the president.

One White House lawyer explained that the Colorado decision will likely be reversed by the Supreme Court, according to The Hill:
“I think this case will be handled quickly. I think it could be 9-0 in the Supreme Court for Trump,” Cobb said in an interview on CNN, adding later, “I do believe it could be 9-0, because I think the law is clear.”
