Virginia Democrats In Danger Of Losing Majority—Here’s Why

Virginia Democrats are in danger of losing their already razor-thin majority in the state senate.

According to sources, Senator Ghazala Hashmi allegedly lied about her primary residence on official filings and this may disqualify her from holding her position altogether.

We have seen a troubling rise in the number of American politicians allegedly living outside of the areas they purportedly represent—something that has been, until now, unheard of.

If Hashmi loses her position, she could be replaced by a Republican and this would achieve a perfect 50/50 gridlocked balance in Virginia’s State Senate.

However, if such a stalemate occurs, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears would have the power to issue a tie-breaking vote in favor of Virginia Republicans. Journalist Chuck Callesto had more:

“Virginia Democrats may now LOSE STATE SENATE MAJORITY Amid Allegations of Candidate Ghazala Hashmi’s FALSE Residency Claims.

Virginia Democrats recently gained control of the state House and managed to retain their hold on the state Senate by a single seat.

However, now there are allegations that one of the winning senators, Ghazala Hashmi, may have PROVIDED FALSE INFORMATION about her residency on her campaign documents.

If these allegations prove true and Hashmi is found to be ineligible to hold office, it could result in her being replaced by a Republican senator.

In such a scenario, Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears would have the authority to cast tie-breaking votes in the state Senate.”

Daily Wire broke the story:

Virginia Senate candidates are required to live in the district they are running for, and Hashmi filed candidacy paperwork saying she lived in an apartment on Boulder Lake Drive in North Chesterfield in Senate District 15.

But four neighbors filed a complaint saying she actually lives outside the district on Bosham Lane in Midlothian

Conservative influencer and podcast host George provided more details:

“Four neighbors filed a complaint saying she actually lives outside the district, and they provided a spreadsheet saying they had driven by real house 62 times during the month of October to document her residency.

The notes include her car being there late at night and early in the morning, and her leaving the house shortly after 8 a.m. It also includes photographic evidence.”

Investigative reporter Luke Rosiak, who authored the Daily Wire piece, sounded the alarm on state Senator Ghazala Hashmi.

Just The News added:

Even if Hashmi is found to be residing in the Chesterfield apartment, she may have still committed a felony by concealing that she owned a home in Midlothian on sworn election forms.
