‘QAnon Shaman’ Is Running For Congress

FILE - In this Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 file photo, supporters of President Donald Trump, including Jacob Chansley, right with fur hat, are confronted by U.S. Capitol Police officers outside the Senate Chamber inside the Capitol in Washington. Congress is set to hear from former security officials about what went wrong at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Americans are very familiar with the ‘QAnon Shaman.’

They might be less familiar with the man behind the face paint though.

35-year-old Jacob Chansley became synonymous with the Capitol incident on January 6th, 2021.

He was treated like a mascot for the incident by those hoping to vilify supporters of President Donald Trump.

After serving nearly 27 months in prison for reasons that are still largely unclear, Chansley was released for good behavior.

In quite the twist of fate, the Arizona resident is  now planning to run for Congress.

Chansley has filed paperwork to run in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District as a libertarian.

The New York Post has the scoop:

Arizona resident Jacob Chansley, the Jan. 6, 2021 rioter dubbed the “QAnon Shaman” whose image was ubiquitous on televisions as he wore face paint with animal fur and horns, plans to run for Congress in 2024.

The 35-year-old filed a statement of interest last Thursday, which, according to the Associated Press, indicates Chansley wants to run as a Libertarian in next year’s election for the 8th Congressional District seat in Arizona.

Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-Ariz., announced in October that she will not seek re-election to her seat, which the 64-year-old woman was first elected to in 2018.

Her term will officially end in January 2025.

Chansley, 35, is widely recognizable as the shirtless and face-painted man who, according to one federal judge, became the “very image” of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Seeing the news agencies covering this man’s campaign would just be great television!

Here’s more from the Post Millennial:

The 35-year-old filed a statement of intent on Thursday that he intends to run on the Libertarian Party ticket, per the Daily Mail. This comes after the Republican who has held the seat since 2018, Debbie Lesko, said that she will not be on the ballot in 2024. She is 64.

Chansley served a prison term after a conviction for Obstructing an Official Proceeding. He pleaded guilty to that charge, and told the court “Men of honor admit when they’re wrong. Not just publicly but to themselves. I was wrong for entering the Capitol. I have no excuse. No excuse whatsoever. The behavior is indefensible.” The US Navy veteran served 27 months of a 41-month sentence, and was released early for good behavior.
