Trump Responds to Gag Order

On Monday, Obama-appointed judge Tanya Chutkan issued a partial gag order to President Donald Trump.

The order forbids Trump from speaking out about Special Counsel Jack Smith.

This means Trump is forbidden from making any statements or criticisms about potential witnesses or prosecutors.

Never one to take anything lying down, President Trump swiftly responded to the news.

“A TERRIBLE THING HAPPENED TO DEMOCRACY TODAY – GAG ORDER!” stated Trump on Truth Social.

A full statement was also provided by Liz Harrington.

Politico reported on the gag order:

Can Donald Trump be gagged?

That’s the question at the heart of a federal hearing Monday, when U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan will consider whether to order the former president to stop attacking potential witnesses, prosecutors and court officials involved in his federal case over election fraud.

If Chutkan agrees that Trump’s penchant for public invective should be restrained, it will be his first brush with court-ordered consequences in a criminal case — consequences that, at least in theory, could be backed by the threat of jail time.

And a gag order would immediately raise two questions that could define his bid to retake the White House: Is Trump capable of abiding by a court-ordered restriction on his speech? And what is Chutkan prepared to do if he isn’t?

Trump didn’t waste any time responding to the news on his Truth Social platform.

The Gateway Pundit has more on Trump’s response:

“A TERRIBLE THING HAPPENED TO DEMOCRACY TODAY – GAG ORDER!” Trump said on Truth Social as he was about to land in Adel, Iowa for a campaign rally.

Trump’s spokeswoman Liz Harrington also released a statement on Chutkan’s gag order.

“Today’s decision is an absolute abomination and another partisan knife stuck in the heart of our Democracy by Crooked Joe Biden, who was granted the right to muzzle his political opponent, the leading candidate for the Presidency in 2024, and the most popular political leader in America, President Donald J. Trump. President Trump will continue to fight for our Constitution, the American people’s right to support him, and to keep our country free of the chains of weaponized and targeted law enforcement,” Liz Harrington said.

Trump made it clear that he will be appealing the order.
