WATCH: Self-Driving Cars Cause Chaos in Austin, Texas

Technology can be a wonderful thing.

That is only the case when it works the way it’s supposed to.

When it doesn’t, we end up with a prequel to the movie Terminator…

On Saturday night, 20 self-driving Chevrolet Bolts caused a bit of chaos in Austin, Texas.

Onlookers recorded the vehicles causing a fairly large traffic backup.

“Are you telling me they have no way to get out of this?” one annoyed driver was heard yelling.

A spokesperson for Cruise later apologized for the incident, but insinuated that the fault belonged not to the vehicles, but to the heavy pedestrian traffic.

Daily Mail reported on the mayhem:

Shocking footage from Austin showed around 20 Cruise-operated Chevrolet Bolts causing mayhem on Saturday night.

‘Are you telling me they have no way to get out of this?’ a driver was heard shouting in the video.

‘Not a single one is man,’ another was heard saying, shocked by the number of self-driving cars on the street.

It’s not known what caused the traffic jam and why the cars became stuck, but a spokesman of Cruise hinted pedestrian traffic as the problem.

‘Foot and vehicle traffic on the street was heavy. Our cars are designed first and foremost to prioritize safety—and that includes using caution around pedestrians,’ the spokesperson said in a statement.

‘We were able to address it and all vehicles departed the area autonomously. We apologize for any inconvenience,’ the spokesman added.

Don’t worry though.

It’s not the fault of the cars or the creators of the vehicles.

According to the Cruise spokesman, the fault lies at the feet of the heavy pedestrian traffic that day.

Great, they’re already siding with the machines…
