“File the F______ Motion!” The Feud Between Gaetz and McCarthy Gets Ugly

Things are getting ugly between congressman Matt Gaetz and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The feud goes all the way back to January, where Gaetz proved to be a thorn in McCarthy’s bid for the speaker role.

It would have been easy to assume that this feud would die down after a few months, but that simply hasn’t been the case.

Gaetz has remained extremely critical of McCarthy.

He’s called him out for the unreleased January 6th tapes, the Hunter Biden scandal, and for dragging his feet on impeaching Joe Biden.

He’s also threated to lead the “resistance” against McCarthy if he doesn’t start taking action.

McCarthy seems fairly upset about this, as he went on a profanity-laced tirade against Gaetz in a private meeting according to witnesses.

In response to Gaetz’s threats, McCarthy dared him, saying: “File the F****** Motion!”

Newsweek has the latest on the feud between Gaetz and McCarthy:

Florida Representative Matt Gaetz has stepped up his feud with Kevin McCarthy, branding the House speaker “McFailure” and warned he will table votes to remove him from position “over and over again until it works” unless concessions are made.

It came after McCarthy announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Tuesday, which will examine whether he was improperly influenced by the business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden, as has long been demanded by the Republican right. However, Gaetz is demanding more concessions from McCarthy including getting subpoenas issued for Hunter, the full release of footage recorded during the United States Capitol riot, ensuring a balanced budget, and term limits for members of Congress.

McCarthy was only elected as speaker by Republican representatives following 15 rounds of voting in January, during which he made a string of pledges to appease hardliners such as Gaetz. This included vowing to change House rules so any GOP representative could file a “motion to vacate,” which would force McCarthy out of the speaker’s office if passed.

Here’s more from representative Matt Gaetz:

Speaker McCarthy did not back down from the criticism.

Instead, McCarthy went on a profanity-laced tirade against Gaetz.

The Associate Press has more on McCarthy’s reaction:

Angry, frustrated and unable to lead a fractured and unruly Republican majority, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Thursday told the colleagues threatening to oust him: Do it.

The embattled Republican leader essentially dared his hard-right flank to quit holding the risk of a vote to remove him from the job.

If you’re going to do it, go ahead and try, McCarthy told the Republicans behind closed doors.

“File the f——- motion,” McCarthy said, using a profanity for emphasis, according to those in the private meeting.

With a government shutdown looming, McCarthy is confronting the same stubborn problem that has driven Republicans before him from the speaker’s job — trying to lead a ruptured GOP majority that’s split between what’s left of the traditional party and a harder-right element largely allied with former President Donald Trump.

How much uglier is this going to get?
