Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams is dead at the age of 36.
Williams’s former team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed his death on social media.
The Buccaneer organization wrote “We are saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates, and fans with heavy hearts.”
Previously several news outlets claimed Williams died on September 5th but it was later discovered that Williams was alive but on life support.
According to a local Buffalo News outlet, Williams died as a result of suffering injuries while working at the construction site.
Williams was hit by a steel beam on September 1st which caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down and just five days later he died from his injuries.
Williams was drafted to the NFL by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2010 draft and put up impressive numbers in his rookie year which landed him placing second in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2010.

Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams is dead at age 36 after being injured in a construction site accident in Hillsborough County, Florida, which includes Tampa. His former team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed his death on social media.
On Tuesday, the Buccaneers announced Williams’ passing and offered their condolences to family and loved ones.
“We are saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates, and fans with heavy hearts,” the team said in a statement. “We send our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as they mourn this tragedy.”
Williams was a star wide receiver at Syracuse for three seasons, according to Syracuse University which posted a statement on their website.
“We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former Syracuse student-athlete Mike Williams,” said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Mike’s family, friends and everyone in the Syracuse football family who knew Mike.”

Tierney Lyle, the mother of Williams’ 8-year-old daughter, said that the five-year NFL veteran was removed from a ventilator on Sept. 7, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
“Mike passed away this morning,” Lyle wrote in a text to the newspaper.
Williams was injured while performing electrical work, Hadley said.
“We are saddened to hear of the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates and fans with heavy hearts,” the Buccaneers said in a statement. “We send our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as they mourn this tragedy.”
