WATCH: Matt Gaetz Threatens McCarthy—Speakership Over?

Today truly is a day for the books, we have an incoming Biden impeachment inquiry and a potential ouster of Kevin McCarthy all in the same day.

Following the historic decision to green-light the Biden impeachment, Speaker McCarthy is still facing immense pressures from inside his own party—most notably from Rep. Matt Gaetz.

It was previously reported that Gaetz threatened to have McCarthy removed as Speaker of the House and even sought out the aid of Democrats in accomplishing this.

The implication was that if McCarthy failed to bring an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden, he would be forced to vacate his role as Speaker.

Despite directing lawmakers to open an impeachment inquiry into Biden on Tuesday, Gaetz still followed through with calls to remove McCarthy unless he made true on his many other promises to fellow Republicans.

Gaetz stated: “On this very floor in January, the whole world witnessed a historic contest for House Speaker.

I rise today to serve notice. Mr. Speaker, you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role.

The path forward for the House of Representatives is to either bring you into immediate total compliance or remove you, pursuant to a motion to vacate the chair.

I know that Washington isn’t a town where people are known for keeping their word. Speaker McCarthy, I’m here to hold you to yours.”

“Matt Gaetz makes it clear. Speaker McCarthy and the rest of the spineless House Republicans can either defund Jack Smith’s election interference or Rep. Gaetz will make a motion to vacate the chair. Now is the time for the House GOP to stand with President Donald J. Trump,” National File journalist Charles R. Downs said.

USA Today reports:

Gaetz called McCarthy’s endorsement of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s family dealings a “baby step” and urged the GOP leader to do more to subpoena Hunter Biden and other members of the Biden family.

Brigitte Gabriel asked: “Would Matt Gaetz make a better Speaker of the House than Kevin McCarthy?”

Rep. Gaetz previously said: “If you want to drain the swamp, you cannot put the biggest alligator in charge of the exercise.”

McCarthy’s position is and has been under immense fire, according to Newsweek:

McCarthy is once again under pressure from hardline members of his own party who are unhappy with the California Republican for stalling on the launching of impeachment hearings against President Joe Biden.

They are also demanding large-scale spending cuts while the House speaker negotiates with Democrats to avert a government shutdown before the end of the month.
