Senior Republican Announces Life-Threatening Diagnosis…

Steve Scalise was recently handed down a life-threatening diagnosis. …

The House Majority Leader announced on Tuesday:

“After a few days of not feeling like myself this past week, I had some blood work done.

The results uncovered some irregularities and after undergoing additional tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a very treatable blood cancer.

I have now begun treatment, which will continue for the next several months.

I expect to work through this period and intend to return to Washington, continuing my work as Majority Leader and serving the people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District.

I am incredibly grateful we were able to detect this early and that this cancer is treatable.

I am thankful for my excellent medical team, and with the help of God, [and the] support of my family, friends, colleagues, and constituents, I will tackle this with the same strength and energy as I have tackled past challenges.”

Fox News reports:

After Scalise’s Tuesday announcement, well-wishes immediately began pouring in for the Louisiana Republican.

“My family and I are praying for Majority Leader [Scalise] and wish him a speedy recovery.

He is no stranger to fighting and winning battles of all kinds. I’m confident that he will win this one, too,” said Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa.

The senior GOP lawmaker assured the public and his colleagues that the form of cancer he was diagnosed with is ‘very treatable’ and he is currently undergoing treatment.

Rep. Scalise previously made headlines in 2017 when he was shot at a practice session for that year’s Congressional baseball game.

Scalise’s Republican colleagues voiced their support for the lawmaker and his family by sending prayers and well-wishes their way.

CNN explained:

Scalise, who is 57-years old, is the second-highest-ranking Republican in the House after Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

He is a major figure within the House GOP conference and has long been seen as either a potential successor, or rival, to McCarthy.
