Sununu Gone! Cause Of Death: Donald Trump

Sometimes I wish I could go back to a simpler time in life where my entire knowledge of politics and of John Sununu came from Naked Gun 2 1/2.

Anyone remember that one?

George H. W. Bush and his Chief of Staff John Sununu?

For years, the only reason I knew who Sununu was was because of this clip:

What a classic!

Sadly, the world is no longer a laughing matter.

The Sununu family has ended up creating a political dynasty in New Hampshire.

And do not forget that Juan O’Savin (love him or hate him) has been telling us that New Hampshire is Ground Zero for much of the money laundering and corrupt operations influencing D.C. and our nation at large.

That small little state….and so much corruption.

Well, it looks like we just got a big win folks….as Steve Bannon wrote on Gettr, “MAGA gets another scalp!”

Governor Chris Sununu is calling it quits!

From Politico, here’s how they summarized it:

Victim: Moderate Republican governors in Democratic-leaning states.

Time of death: 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Cause: Donald Trump.

They say that like it’s a bad thing.

Looks to me like a victory lap, ESPECIALLY if New Hampshire truly is as corrupt as Juan keeps telling us!

Here’s what the NH Journal reported:

The first Republican to win the governor’s office since 2002– and the only GOP governor in state history to serve eight years — says his fourth term will be his last.

“After discussions with Valerie and the kids and much consideration, I have decided not to run for another term as governor in 2024,” Chris Sununu told supporters in an email Wednesday. “This was no easy decision as I truly love serving as governor.”

“It is with great pride that New Hampshire is better off today than we were seven years ago,” Sununu added.

The announcement concluded months of speculation over whether Sununu would seek a record fifth term or return to the private sector.

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s Executive Council meeting (held in Dover in part to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the city’s founding), Sununu didn’t preview his upcoming plans. When asked what is next for him, Sununu said, “There is no ‘next.’ What I’m going to do next is go back to work. I’m still governor for 18 months.”

Being governor “is not a public career; it’s public service,” Sununu said. With the economic success and government reforms over the past four terms, “it just seems like a perfect time to pass the reins off to someone else.”

Sununu has consistently enjoyed high approval ratings throughout his time in the corner office. Last month, a Wall Street 24/7 analysis listed Sununu as the third most popular governor in the country.

He touted some of his accomplishments via Twitter:

Other notable legislative actions include universal license recognition, record public education funding, voluntary paid family medical leave, and repealing the Interest and Dividends Tax.

Sununu’s popularity soared during his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. His approval numbers were never higher than during that time.

This brand of moderate Republican governor has been edging ever-closer to extinction for some time. Larry Hogan was term-limited out in Maryland last year. Charlie Baker opted for a $3 million-per-year paycheck over a brutal primary against a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate in Massachusetts.

Now Chris Sununu is calling it quits in New Hampshire.

Fiscally conservative but more socially moderate Republican governors have long defied electoral odds in blue and purple states. That’s proved particularly true in the liberal bastion of New England, where three of the region’s six governors were Republicans and executives of Baker and Bill Weld’s ilk ran Massachusetts almost uninterrupted for 30 years.

Until now.

Trump’s rise accelerated the Republican Party’s hard-right march, complicating the primary calculus for moderates. Democrats capitalized on both Baker and Hogan’s departures and on anger towards both Trump and the Supreme Court to win back corner offices in Massachusetts and Maryland last year. On Wednesday, race raters reacted to Sununu’s pending departure by shifting the New Hampshire governor’s contest to a toss-up. Democrats now see the state as their best chance for a gubernatorial flip in 2024.
