BREAKING: Massive Explosion Rocks Paris


A gas explosion has reportedly occurred in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, France.

The blast caused several buildings to catch fire, and sent flames and smoke into the air.

It’s believed the explosion was the result of a gas leak.

Officials warned people to avoid the area.

Flames and smoke were seen tumbling into the air with footage and images from the scene showing buildings on fire.

Several social media clips showed a blackened and destroyed buildings.

It is not yet known if there are any victims or if anyone is injured amid the flames, as police say they are conducting checks on the incident.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said a fire was underway on Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris’ fifth arrondissement, close to the Jardin Du Luxembourg and Sorbonne University.

In a later update, it’s being reported that at least four people were in critical condition.

A gas explosion has occurred in the fifth arrondissement of Paris, resulting in several buildings catching fire, a local Paris officials said on Wednesday.

Police told people to avoid the Val de Grace area after the facade of a building collapsed and the fire appeared to have spread to neighbouring buildings.

Just after 5pm, locals described one big explosion and one smaller explosion. One man told France Info public radio: “It was shocking. It’s a disaster”.

Police, fire services and ambulance services rushed to the scene.

BFMTV reported that at least four people were in a critical condition.
