WATCH: Conservatives Targeted By Mysterious Packages

Well, this is really concerning and indicative of the current political climate at the same time. …

According to recent reports, investigators are probing over 100 cases of public officials receiving envelopes filled with a mysterious white powder.

Those targeted seem to be overwhelmingly conservative and include names such as Clarence Thomas and President Donald J. Trump.

The Kansas FBI announced that no toxic chemicals were found in the composition of the mysterious white powder. …

What I want to know is who is sending these envelopes and why so many of them.

Usually, attacks of this kind are against a few, select people—they aren’t sent to over 100 individuals, so what is going on here?

ABC News broke the story:

Since Friday, about 100 letters have been received by Kansas GOP lawmakers and Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, who is also a Republican, officials said.

The list of intended recipients of white powder letters is growing and expanding beyond Kansas, federal law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Similar letters containing a cryptic note and a “suspicious powdery substance” were addressed to former President Donald Trump, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and other high-profile individuals, though the U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted them before they were delivered, the sources said.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation issued this press release:

“The KBI and the FBI, with assistance from KDHE and other partners, updated findings on the white powder found in letters sent to Kansas legislators and public officials.

As of Sunday June 18, approximately 100 letters containing suspicious white powder have been received across the state of Kansas. A small sample of the letters containing powder was sent to a laboratory that specializes in testing biological samples.

Preliminary tests have returned from this lab indicating the substance is presumptively negative for common biological agents of concern.

Further and more complete testing will be conducted on this sample, as well as on additional letters that have been collected, in an effort to determine the components of the substance.

EARLIER: Today, KBI agents working alongside the FBI, KDHE, OSFM, Kansas National Guard, KHP, and several local police departments, sheriff’s offices, and fire departments have responded after mail was received by legislators and other public officials containing a suspicious white powder.

As of 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, over 30 letters containing the suspicious powder have been reported across the state. Law enforcement and hazmat teams are working to safely collect the letters and investigate the incidents.

Currently, no injuries have been reported, but we ask everyone to remain vigilant in handling mail. Any similar incidents should be immediately reported to the KBI at 1-800-KSCRIME.”

The Independent adds:

One of the recipients of the compromised letter told ABC Kansas City affiliate KMBC that the note with the letter was intended to threaten.

“There is some message. The message is somewhat unclear, but it was intended to be threatening,” Republican state senator Molly Baumgardner said.

She said the letter mailed to her had a suspicious white powder and a note which read in part that: “It is important not to choke on your ambition”.
