What we recently reported as an ‘imminent’ threat of attack from Iran against the U.S. military in Qatar has come to pass.
A barrage of missiles were fired a short time ago by Iran targeting the American Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
There are simultaneous reports of attacks and explosions near American bases in Iraq as well.
An eyewitness report from the ground in Qatar near the U.S. base described “lights” — presumably missiles and interceptors — visible in the sky above Doha, Qatar:
Seeing missile defense systems flying over Doha now. Most of the lights are moving away from the U.S. military base, a few going toward the base it seemed.

The attack occurred shortly after that reporter de-boarded his plane in Qatar, barely landing before the airspace was closed.
Here’s a more detailed account from that same reporter, Brian Entin, who is currently on the ground in Qatar reporting for Axios:
Iran launched multiple missiles against American military bases in the Middle East on Monday in retaliation for the U.S. strike on its nuclear facilities this weekend.
At least 10 missiles were launched toward Qatar and at least one missile launched toward Iraq, according to an Israeli official.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council released a statement confirming the attack and claiming the number of missiles fired was equal to the number of bombs the U.S. used in its strike on Saturday.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had earlier released a statement claiming it had launched a “devastating and powerful missile attack” against Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
The Foreign Ministry of Qatar issued a statement saying Qatari air defenses “thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles,” with no injuries or deaths reported.
Explosions were heard over Qatar’s capital city of Doha on Monday night local time, according to Reuters.
Simultaneously, journalist Collin Rugg shared this clip purportedly showing the moment Patriot missile batteries in Qatar and other air defenses took out at least some of those incoming missiles fired by Iran:
JUST IN: Qatar confirms that Iranian missiles launched toward U.S. Al Udeid Air Base were successfully intercepted.
There are no reports of any damage or injuries.

Meanwhile, Iran also reportedly targeted US military bases inside Iraq.
Those reports have take a backseat to the majority of the reporting that is focused on the attack on Qatar.
But Iranian media is stating it targeted the U.S. military inside Iraq, according to CNN:
Iran said it had fired missiles toward a US military base in Iraq, Iranian state media Tasnim reported.
Iran’s missile operation against American bases in Qatar and Iraq have started, state media reported, citing the operation name, “Besharat al-Fath,” meaning “Blessings of victory.”
There are apparently no casualties or successful strikes — at least on the base in Qatar.
That is according to Fox News as shared by Nick Sortor:
🚨 #BREAKING: NO reports of impacts at US bases in Qatar as American Patriot missile defense systems intercept Iranian missiles

There are also reports that Iran gave advanced warning that it would be launching these strikes.
While Iran is playing a serious game by retaliating against the U.S. strikes on it’s nuclear facilities…
It seems to be hopeful that the U.S. will not retaliate in kind, according to Fox News:
Qatar’s foreign ministry called the attack “brazen aggression,” but said it had successfully intercepted Iranian missiles.
Explosions were heard in Doha, a source told Fox News. Iranian state media reported that “Operation Fatah’s Blessing against the American Al-Udeid base in Qatar has begun.”
Just before the attack, Iran’s President Mahmoud Pezeshkian issued a warning promising not to let Saturday’s strikes on its nuclear facilities go “unanswered.”
“We neither initiated the war nor wanted it; but we will not leave the aggression against #GreaterIran unanswered. We will stand by the security of this #belovednation with all our being and respond to every wound on Iran’s body with faith, wisdom, and determination,” he wrote on X.
But Iran gave Qatari officials advanced notice of the attacks, Iranian sources told the New York Times. It would be a strategy similar to the response to the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, where Iran needed to symbolically respond without escalating the conflict beyond what it could handle. (Emphasis added.)
Collin Rugg also shared Brian Entin’s video of the sky over Qatar.
He corroborated the story from that previous Fox News article alleging that Iran apparently gave advanced warning of it’s attack with excerpts from more of Entin’s on-the-ground reporting:
BREAKING: Iran coordinated their attack on the U.S. air base in Qatar with Qatari officials to "symbolically" strike the U.S. and to provide an "exit ramp," according to the New York Times.
Iran reached out ahead of time to tell Qatar of the attack to "minimize casualties."… pic.twitter.com/ok9301PPJv

Here’s the full text of that post:
BREAKING: Iran coordinated their attack on the U.S. air base in Qatar with Qatari officials to “symbolically” strike the U.S. and to provide an “exit ramp,” according to the New York Times.
Iran reached out ahead of time to tell Qatar of the attack to “minimize casualties.”
“Iran coordinated the attacks on the American air base in Qatar with Qatari officials and gave advanced notice that attacks were coming to minimize casualties,” the NYT reported.
“The officials said Iran symbolically needed to strike back at the U.S. but at the same time carry it out in a way that allowed all sides an exit ramp.”
“They described it as a similar strategy to 2020 when Iran gave Iraq heads-up before firing ballistic missiles at an American base in Iraq following the assass*nation of its top general.”
At the moment there are no reports of casualties or damage — no reports of successful impacts — from this Iranian strike.
That said, it is nighttime in that part of the world, and more information may be forthcoming.
Currently it remains to be seen whether the Iranian intention of being seen to respond without inviting further American strikes will work.
As always, we will keep you informed of these events as they continue to unfold.

[ UPDATE: 2:00PM CST / 6-23-2025 ] :
More information is coming to light regarding today’s retaliatory strikes on American bases by Iran.
Earlier reports that Iran targeted bases in Iraq may prove inaccurate.
While President Trump is reportedly in the situation room at the White House monitoring Iran’s actions, Sky News is reporting they have been told no attacks on US bases in Iraq were detected.
Here’s that report from Sky News:
Iran claims it has carried out a “mighty and successful response” to “America’s aggression” after launching missile attacks on a US military base in Qatar and Iraq.
Initial reports claimed Iran had also targeted a base housing US troops in western Iraq, but a US military official has now told Reuters news agency the attack in Qatar was the only one detected.
A US government official has said the White House and US defence department is “closely monitoring” the potential threats to its base.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is in the Situation Room in the White House with his team following the Iranian strikes.
Iran’s claims to have launched that attack inside Iraq against US assets may prove true as more information comes to light.
But at the moment, it seems that the only attack Iran launched was that targeting the US base in Qatar.
This remains a developing story, with clarifying information likely to come in the hours ahead.
We’ll keep our eyes on Iran, and President Trump’s response to this latest attack, and bring you the latest as it happens.
How would you approach this?
