Simple Lottery Mistake Lands Winner $2M

The odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field is 3,720 to 1, according to C-3PO.

The odds of having a gas station clerk pick out the winning ticket for you?

1,142,400 to 1.

The story starts with Kelly Lindsay from Carrollton, Virginia who asked for her usual lottery ticket.

But a mistake occurred and she ended up with a Money Blitz scratcher instead.

Not thrilled about the swap, fate must have it in for her. This is turning out to be a terrible day for her…what else could go wrong?!

Then she scratched it in the parking lot and—surprise!—won $2 million.

Talk about things going wrong working out in your favor!

She could get a monthly payment for 30 years or a lump-sum option of $1.25 million before taxes. (That’s sort of rip off! How much will she actually take home?)

She chose the lump sum.

People reports:

A woman in Virginia won big after she was given the wrong lottery ticket.

Kelly Lindsay, from the small town Carrollton, Va., went home with $2 million dollars after being given the wrong lottery ticket at a gas station, according to the Virginia Lottery.

The winner told the company that she was not pleased when she was given a Money Blitz ticket, rather than her favorite scratcher game. However, that did not stop her from playing. She reportedly scratched the lottery ticket in the parking lot and learned that she won the top prize.

When redeeming her ticket, she was given the choice of taking the full $2 million prize in yearly payments over 30 years or a one-time payment of $1,250,000 pre taxes. The prize winner opted for the cash option.

There have been several stories of people accidentally winning the lottery.

In 2021, LaQuedra Edwards of California won $10 million when she placed $40 into a Lottery Scratchers and pushed the button for the wrong ticket after she was bumped by a “rude person” at a grocery store.

Talk about being “touched by an angel”.

That bump was sent by God.

This strategy of getting the wrong ticket seems to work better than mine, and mine is pretty fool proof.

All I need is a modified time-traveling DeLorean for it to work.

On a side note, it seems that a winning lottery ticket affects women and men differently according to a recent study
