Here’s what The New York Post reported:
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the longest-serving leader in the upper chamber’s history, will not seek re-election in 2026, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
McConnell, 83, will have served seven terms by the time he retires in January 2027 and had already stepped down as the Republican leader after the 2024 elections.
The Kentucky Republican leaves behind a legacy of having completely remade the US Supreme Court, handing it a conservative majority during the first Trump administration with the installment of three justices — after having blocked Merrick Garland’s appointment under former President Barack Obama.
ADVERTISEMENTBut he broke with President Trump over his “rigged” election claims that culminated in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot — and has voted down some of the 47th commander-in-chief’s cabinet officials at the start of his second term.

Per Politico:
Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the former majority leader and the most consequential Republican senator of his generation, will announce Thursday he will not seek reelection next year, according to people briefed on his plans.
The announcement is expected in a midday floor speech. It will not come as a major surprise in Washington or his home state: After stepping down as GOP leader last year, he gave few indications he would pursue an eighth term in the Senate.
The news of McConnell’s retirement was described by three people with direct knowledge of the matter. They were granted anonymity to share the news ahead of a formal announcement.
McConnell turned 83 on Thursday. He has recently suffered several health challenges, including a fall taken while leaving the Senate chamber earlier this month that has left him using a wheelchair.
