Vivek Ramaswamy Officially Files Paperwork For Gubernatorial Race

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has filed paperwork to begin his expected run for governor of Ohio.

A formal announcement is expected later this month.

“Big announcement in Ohio coming on Feb 24. It won’t be your usual gubernatorial dog-and-pony show,” he said, according to the New York Post.

According to the Associated Press, Ramaswamy will kick off his gubernatorial campaign on February 24th in his native Cincinnati, Ohio.

From the Associated Press:

The 39-year-old biotech entrepreneur, a 2024 presidential candidate who left President Donald Trump’s government efficiency initiative last month, will kick off his closely watched campaign at Cincinnati’s CTL Aerospace Inc. He’ll then head to New Albany, outside Columbus, to deliver remarks at Axium Packaging later that evening, according to a person close to the campaign who sought anonymity to discuss the unannounced details.

On Feb. 25, Ramaswamy plans events at Glass City Center in Toledo and The Local Bar in Strongsville, a suburb of Cleveland.

Ramaswamy will enter a GOP primary to succeed term-limited Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine that’s already been joined by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Heather Hill, a former member of the state Martin Luther King Commission. Former Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, long viewed as a frontrunner in that contest, dropped out of the running last month after being appointed to the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Vice President JD Vance, a friend of Ramaswamy’s since the two attended Yale Law School.

More from the New York Post:

Ramaswamy has been hinting at a possible run for governor since ditching plans to serve with Elon Musk as co-leader of the new Department of Government Efficiency last month.

At the time, a Trump-Vance transition spokesperson told The Post that Ramaswamy’s interest in running for governor of Ohio was the reason he was departing the committee tasked with exploring ways to trim the size of the federal government.

Ramaswamy will enter a GOP primary to succeed term-limited Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. The race includes Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Heather Hill, a former member of the Buckeye State’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commission.

Former Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted — who was viewed as a frontrunner for the race — dropped out last month after he was appointed to the US Senate seat that was formerly held by Vice President JD Vance.

Ramaswamy has already racked up endorsements from two sitting Republican statewide officials: Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Treasurer Robert Sprague.
