The trash talking was at peak levels for Super Bowl 59, and the aftermath is still active!
During the game, Philadelphia’s Gardner-Johnson was his usual talkative self.
There were multiple moments of conflict on the field, including several with Travis Kelce on the Chiefs’ roster… who happens to be dating Taylor Swift, in case you weren’t aware.
But it was what happened after the game, during the euphoria of the win still buzzing in Gardner-Johnson’s ears that really got things stirred up.
He took to social media after the game, mocking Kelce with a photo of the Chief’s player with girlfriend Taylor, alongside a photo of Kelce’s previous girlfriend in a bikini.
The post was made to Gardner-Johnson’s Instagram stories, which has since fallen out of rotation. But here’s the photo with the caption:
“Should’ve Stayed w that thick s****”
The photo has been edited by yours truly with the addition of a heart in a strategic location. (You’re welcome.)
I have to admit — to the shame of my age, but the pride of my generation (GO GEN X!) I had to conduct a reasonable amount of research to figure out what word he used to describe Travis Kelce’s former girlfriend.
I am 99.9% sure that the word was “skeeo”, basically the current slang for a slutty woman.
So even though Gardner-Johnson directly disrespected Kelce’s former girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, the Taylor Swift fanbase recognized the hit against their favorite celebrity — and initiated a war.
First, Swifties attempted to report Gardner-Johnson’s mother’s restaurant to ICE… apparently hoping to get the place raided by ICE, according to a report in the Daily Caller:
In a sheer display of ruthless retaliation, at least one Taylor Swift fan appeared to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the mother of an Eagles player who trolled the pop star’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
A restaurant belonging to C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s mom was bombarded by a slew of negative reviews Monday, shortly after the Philadelphia Eagles star took a public jab at Kelce. Gardner-Johnson posted the caption, “Should’ve Stayed w that thick s****,” on social media. The statement appeared to reference Kelce’s previous relationship with on-air sports journalist Kayla Nicole. Swift’s fans responded by issuing an online attack, including an alarming post on Reddit that reads, “I made an ICE report on his mom’s business and don’t regret it.”
And then, the dogpile began.
Swifties took to the restaurant online reviews and created a storm of 1 star ratings.
🚨🚨THIS IS AWFUL🚨🚨
Swifties and #Chiefs fans have been leaving bad fake reviews to #Eagles DB CJ Gardner-Johnson’s moms restaurant in Florida.
This comes after CJGJ went after Kelce.
His mom did nothing and they are putting her livelihood at risk. Awful.

The reaction to that attack was so “swift” (hehehe…) that even Swifties were calling out their fellow fans for the low blow.
But before that, the onslaught of Swifties relentlessly attacking Gardner-Johnson’s parents was intense:
A huge influx of 5 star ratings followed, in an attempt to counteract the low ratings.
Eventually, Yelp stepped in and started monitoring the activity once they got wind of the publicity causing the non-factual rating storm.
This is what I found when I looked up the restaurant:
The pushback quickly changed the momentum of the attack.
Swifties and non-fans alike started coming out of the woodwork in defense of Gardner-Johnson’s parents.
It was soon learned that the restaurant hasn’t even been open since January, as this article from the local Fox affiliate in Philadelphia points out:
If there’s one thing the world can agree on, the Swifties do not play about Taylor.
Taylor Swift fans came to the multi-Grammy award winner’s defense after Eagles Super Bowl champion C.J. Gardner-Johnson threw a hint of shade at T-Swift’s beau, Travis Kelce and his ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.
Hours after the Eagles defeated the Chiefs in a 40-22 Super Bowl LIX win, the defensive back shared a photo of him in front of Kelce during the game, and captioned it, ‘Should’ve Stayed w that thick s***’
The comment was a dig regarding Kelce’s ex, Kayla Nicole.
It didn’t take long for the Swifties to assemble, and they dragged C.J.’s parents’ business into the mix.
It appeared many people left horrible reviews for King’s Grill, the Rockledge, Fl. restaurant owned by Gardner-Johnson’s mother, Delatron Johnson.
According to TMZ, the pouring in of negative reviews prompted a “Unusual Activity” alert to appear on the eatery’s Yelp page and comments were temporarily disable.
However, Google reportedly removed all the recent reviews on the restaurant’s page.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s parents, Brian and Del, joined TMZ Live Tuesday afternoon to respond to the aftermath and make an announcement.
The couple says King’s Grill has been closed since late January.
ADVERTISEMENTNow, they are opening up a new restaurant called Village Bier Garten in Cocoa, FL.
Though Taylor Swift’s fans are historically notorious for their loyalty and defensiveness regarding Taylor, this represents an entirely knew level of ferocity.
For one thing, making a false report to a federal law enforcement agency is a federal offence.
Not to mention, the fact that so many people were willing to cooperate in a split second in the unmitigated attack on a man’s parents and their source of income, in retaliation for something he said — that just shows the depth that our society has reached.
While I’m definitely not a Taylor Swift fan (lyrics and message matter to me…), I’ll say this — I hope for Travis Kelce’s sake that his relationship with Taylor blooms and flourishes over a lifetime shared together.
Because if he ever leaves her, or if she drops him… God only knows what the Swifties might do in retaliation.
