President Trump is telling thousands of federal employees to pack their bags and head home…’You’re fired!’
Under orders from the Trump administration, mass layoffs are officially underway across numerous federal agencies, including the Department of Education, CFPB, EPA, Office of Personnel Management, GSA, and the Small Business Administration.
Keep in mind that these people had a chance to take President Trump’s buyout offer. And, in fact, some 77,000 did just that.
But, these layoffs are going well beyond those who accepted the voluntary resignation package, which offered full pay and benefits until this September.
According to an anonymous White House official, “This is not a mission to reach a quota, this is a mission to streamline the government.”

The layoffs will begin with new federal hires, or “probationary employees,” who have been there for less than two years.

From ABC News:
A day after the Trump administration ended its deferred resignation offer to the nation’s two million federal government employees, the administration on Thursday began mass layoffs across multiple federal agencies in a move that is expected to impact thousands of employees, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.
The layoffs, part of Trump’s campaign pledge to slash the federal government, initially impacted probationary employees — recent hires who joined the federal workforce within the last one to two years, depending on the agency, and have fewer protections.
Among the agencies experiencing layoffs were the Department of Education, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Office of Personnel Management, the Environmental Protective Agency, the General Services Administration and the Small Business Administration.
Some additional agencies were also directed to begin their layoffs Thursday, sources said.
Politico added:
The Trump administration moved swiftly to lay off thousands of government employees in at least six agencies Thursday, initiating a new and more aggressive phase of its push to shrink the federal workforce.
Officials would not say how many layoff notices they plan to send, but acknowledged they expect to go well beyond the 77,000 employees who have already accepted offers to leave. The voluntary resignation program — ended after a judge’s ruling Wednesday — culled 3 percent of the workforce, well short of the administration’s 10 percent goal.
ADVERTISEMENT“This is not a mission to reach a quota, this is a mission to streamline the government,” said a White House official granted anonymity to discuss the thinking behind the administration’s actions.
The Department of Energy plans to lay off most or all of its estimated 2,000 probationary employees Thursday. Over the past 48 hours, at least five other agencies — the Education Department, the Office of Personnel Management, Small Business Administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the General Services Administration initiated layoffs.
