President Trump Reveals Hilarious Reason He Won’t Be Deporting Prince Harry

U.S. Royal Family outcasts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have attracted criticism on both sides of the pond in recent years for public statements and attention-seeking behavior.

Some have even gone so far as to petition President Donald Trump to deport the British royal, who moved here several years ago amid a monarchical rift.

This week, Trump addressed the topic, announcing his decision in his own inimitable way, per the New York Post:

Harry’s immigration status is the subject of litigation in Washington DC, with the Heritage Foundation alleging that he may have concealed past illegal drug use that should have disqualified him from obtaining a US visa.

But the president told The New York Post Friday that he isn’t interested in throwing Harry out of the country.

“I don’t want to do that,” he said. “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”

Trump took the opportunity to praise Harry’s estranged older brother William, with whom he met privately in Paris in December during the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral.

“I think William is a great young man,” he said.

Trump’s remarks about Harry and Meghan began circulating on social media almost immediately:

The Daily Mail provided a bit of background on the Heritage Foundation’s effort to suss out Harry’s immigration status:

The US Department of State says that convictions for drug offences can make visa applicants ineligible.

Heritage had sought to obtain the information from the DHS via freedom of information requests before bringing its case to court. Harry is not a party in the lawsuit.

This week, judge Carl Nichols asked the DHS to provide details of redactions it could make in Harry’s visa records in what has been interpreted as a strong suggestion the documents could be made public, to a degree.

Judge Nichols had previously ruled on September 9 that the secret records should remain private.

Harry’s immigration status – whether he is on a regular or diplomatic visa, or a green card signifying permanent residency – is not known.

In February last year, the Duke said he had ‘considered’ applying to become a US citizen.

Asked on ABC’s Good Morning America what was stopping him, he said: ‘I have no idea. It’s a thought that has crossed my mind but it’s not a high priority for me right now.’

Here’s some additional coverage of the developing narrative:
