Barn Fire K*lls 200,000 Chickens

A massive barn fire in Ohio resulted in the death of approximately 200,000 chickens.

“At least 33 agencies from six different counties from Ohio and Indiana were called Tuesday to a fire at a giant chicken farm in Darke County,” Dayton Daily News reports.

Per Dayton Daily News:

Crews responded to the large fire at the 60 block of Billman Road in New Madison that is home to the business New Madison Pullets around 6 a.m., according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

There were 55 pieces of law, fire and EMS equipment on scene from 33 different agencies, the sheriff’s office said. A full list of the agencies involved is not yet available.

No injuries were reported on scene.

“The State Fire Marshall’s office has been requested, and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time,” Robert Cook, fire chief at New Madison Fire Department, said.

WHIO-TV reports:

New Madison Fire Department confirmed to News Center 7 that 200,000 chickens died in the fire.

News Center 7 previously reported that firefighters were dispatched at 6:04 a.m. Monday to the 60 block of Billman Road.

The fire broke out at New Madison Pullets and affected two buildings on the property, one of which has been considered a total loss.

Video showed how bad the smoke conditions were when firefighters got to the scene.

One firefighter said they couldn’t see a truck that was three feet in front of them because of that smoke.

Firefighters had to call in mutual aid due to no hydrants in the area.
