British Columbia Premier David Eby said at a press conference that he instructed the province to halt the purchase of American liquor from “red” states.
“For our first of many steps, effective today, I have directed B.C. Liquor sales to immediately stop buying American liquor from red states. Liquor store employees will be removing the most popular of these brands from government store shelves,” Eby said.

Per CBC News:
Speaking at a news conference Saturday, Eby criticized the tariffs as a betrayal of the long-standing relationship between Canada and the U.S. He said the province would stand firm in the face of what he called an “unprecedented attack.”
As an initial response, Eby said he has directed the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch to immediately stop purchasing American liquor from Republican-led “red states” and remove the top-selling brands from public liquor store shelves.
He also directed the B.C. government and Crown corporations to prioritize Canadian goods and services in procurement decisions.

This comes on the same day U.S. President Donald Trump signed executive orders confirming he will impose a 25 per cent tariff on most Canadian imports beginning Tuesday, with a 10 per cent tariff on Canadian energy products.

USA TODAY reports:
President Donald Trump signed a trio of executive orders on Saturday that imposed 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% duty on imports from China as he sought to force the countries to clamp down on the flow of migrants and fentanyl across their borders and into the U.S.
An exception was made for Canadian energy, including natural gas and oil. Tariffs on energy imports from Canada were set at a lower rate of 10%, a White House official said, to minimize the potential for disruptions in gasoline and home heating prices.
The new tariffs on imports from all three nations are on top of existing duties. They are expected to go into effect on Tuesday.
ADVERTISEMENTThe full text of the executive orders were not immediately available. However, the official said they included a retaliation clause that would serve as a signal to affected countries that counter-tariffs would likely be met with further action from the U.S. government.
Tariffs have been central to Trump’s economic strategy, and part of an attempt to increase tax revenue and protect jobs. He has also used them as a negotiating tool, threatening tariffs against countries as a way to achieve a myriad of policy concessions.
