I don’t know anyone who thinks the democratic party has learned any lessons as a result of the absolute trouncing they sustained at the hands of their sworn arch nemesis, President Trump
That’s probably because they truly haven’t learned any lessons.
But maybe I misspoke labeling President Trump as “the” arch nemesis of the democratic party.
Reality itself seems to be the primary bane of the democratic party’s existence, it’s just that President Trump is so, well, realistic.
That brings us to the newly elected (wow – they actually let the votes count this time!?) head of the Democratic National Convention.
The DNC just elected a new party leader, and boy — is he ever representative of those out-of-touch morons who just presided over the most humiliating political defeat of our lifetimes.
I give you the new chairman of the DNC, Ken Martin; close friend of Tim Walz, for starters:
The Democrats just chose Tim Walz’ “close friend,” Ken Martin, to be their new DNC Chair.
The Democrats still have no idea why they lost. 😂 https://t.co/0PueraFYwl pic.twitter.com/dXU2rZed3h

So what do we know about this Ken Martin guy, anyway?
As we just saw, he does consider himself a “close friend” of Tim Walz.
Check out this news clip from back when Tim Walz was announced as Kamala’s running mate, and Martin talked about his buddy Walz:
We also know that he’s been the Vice Chair of the DNC for the previous eight years, and that he’s been in charge of the association of state-level Democratic Party chairs.
And that sounds like an absolute snooze fest, but it means he carries money-backed power behind the curtain of the Democratic Party.
In fact, he defeated several serious contenders to become the new DNC chairman, including Wisconsin State Party Chair Ben Wikler with his big endorsements, according to a report in The Hill:
Some of Martin’s most prominent endorsements came from Minnesota governor and ex-vice presidential hopeful Tim Walz, Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who ran for DNC chair in 2017 against then former Obama Labor Secretary Tom Perez. Former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland also endorsed Martin, among others.
Meanwhile, Wikler enjoyed endorsements from top Democratic leadership, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Ahead of the Saturday election, Martin said he had more than 200 public endorsements from DNC committee members — nearly half of the 448 DNC members needed to win the chair race.
ADVERTISEMENTIn speeches ahead of the actual election, several candidates also made last-minute endorsements backing Martin, including former presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson and former Department of Homeland Security official Nate Snyder.
Martin said in an interview with The Hill last year that he saw a multi-faceted role for the DNC amid a second Trump administration — both resisting “the really extremes and excesses of the Trump administration” and defining the Democrats’ priorities.
“You have to give people a sense of who you are and who the party is, who we’re fighting for, and why and that means, you know, if we’re focused the whole time on just resisting Trump, we’re not giving people a sense of who we are and why they should support us,” Martin told The Hill.
The fact that Martin’s top contender had the support of Schumer, Jeffries, and Pelosi… and still lost — that means something.
That means there is indeed a shift in the party. It means there is a breakage of sorts. And it means that those who control the money flow in democratic circles in Congress and those who control the money from DNC donors are not necessarily in lockstep.
There is a break within the Democratic Party, caused party by a disparity between those who want to play (dare I use the term) a more ‘conservative’ and long-game approach to regaining power, and those who are operating under the same knee-jerk reactionary mode as Kamala and Tim when they went over the cliff — dumpster fire and all.
Neither approach stands to win against the common sense reality that President Trump represents; but they don’t seem to know that, yet.
This might be a good opportunity to share a post from Ken Martin’s X account, just for a little context about who we’re talking about here:
Yes I am 47 years old. Yes I made a TikTok. Yes my kids are mortified. However, this goes to show how excited I am for President Biden's American Rescue Plan. Help is here now and thanks to the #ARP we have checks in banks and shots in arms. #HelpIsHere @DemStateParties pic.twitter.com/SEeVggiOwT

Yes — on the heels of their defeat at the hands of President Trump, and with the American political landscape being what it is in 2025 with a huge swell of support against the very things touted in that video… the Democrats have doubled-down, hugely.
And that brings me to one of Ken Martin’s most famous claims — not that it was a unique thing to have heard in DNC circles a few years ago, or even a few months ago.
What the actual f**k!?!? @realDonaldTrump should be immediately impeached and then put on trial for treason. His actions led to the deaths of American soldiers. He is a traitor to our nation and all those who have served. He is #BenedictDonald https://t.co/uAebVU7fiz

The DNC, after getting TROUNCED, just elected to their chairman position a guy who called President Trump “Benedict Donald”, called for his impeachment, and recommended he be put on trial for treason, calling him “a traitor”.
Nope — they haven’t learned a single lesson from their recent defeat.
As I pointed out earlier, it is rather surprising that he won this position considering he represents the same old tactics that have gone down in flames with President Trump’s win.
While touting party unity, he in fact beat the favored party candidate — Ben Wikler, who had major Congressional democrat support — according to Newsweek:
As New York Times reporter Reid Epstein noted, “It is remarkable that Ken Martin won this election while the most significant figures in the Democratic party — Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi and major labor leaders—were all in favor of his rival, Ben Wikler.”
In his victory speech, Martin emphasized party unity and redirected attention to external challenges. “We have one team, the Democratic Party, and we have one fight. The fight’s not in here, it’s out there,” he said, adding that “the fight right now is against Donald Trump and the billionaires who bought this country.”
Martin has served as the Chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party since 2011, making him the longest-serving chair in the organization’s 75-year history.
His political career spans two decades, during which he held key leadership roles in numerous campaigns, including “Mark Dayton for Governor” in 2010, “Mike Hatch for Governor” in 2006, “John Kerry for President” in 2004, “Hubert Humphrey for Secretary of State” in 2002, and “Al Gore for President” in 2000.

While I’m curious at the innerworkings that led to the victory of Ken Martin, at the end of the day it is indicative of something we already knew about — the complete collapse of the Democratic Party.
It is not a good sign when the defeated side promotes someone to the top whose tactics just proved entirely unsuccessful.
At least, it’s not a good sign for that loosing side.
For American First conservatives, for true libertarians who want small government EVERYTHING, for Republicans who don’t fit the ‘RINO’ definition, for MAGA — this is GREAT!
But for the Democratic Party that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Tim Walz just burned to the ground, the election of Ken Martin doesn’t seem to be a legitimate move to ‘rebuild better’.
It looks more like they’re doubling-down… because they don’t know what else to do.
That’s what happens when you’re wrong, and refuse to accept it.
How do I know? I’m a Dad with 5 young kids — that’s the hallmark of immaturity and a lack of emotional intelligence which leads to two possible outcomes:
- Double-down.
- Cry.
Welcome to the foreseeable future of the Democratic Party, at the hands of Ken Martin.
At least the memes and X posts will be fun to watch.
