RFK JR: Strategic Reformer, Bareknuckle Disruptor, or Both?

RFK Jr. refuses to fit inside anyone’s box, and he has learned to be comfortable with that.

Still, there is a question on the table regarding the flavor of change he’ll bring to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, if he’s confirmed by the Senate.

As of this moment it remains to be seen if that confirmation will be realized, but there is little question that he will bring change if allowed — the question is simply what sort of change?

Will he simply disrupt the current modalities, stir the pot, and allow a new dynamic to naturally take shape out of the swirling chaos of his disruptions?

Or is he more of a reformer who will strategically choose his battles at HHS and allow incremental changes over time to be considered a ‘win’?

In true Trump fashion, he may shake things up in the halls of HHS, (dare I say, in true Bobby Kennedy style?) — or will he settle for a less stress-inducing long game approach (as his presidential uncle would have surely appreciated)?

The answer seems obvious to me — he is both reformer and disruptor, and unwilling (as usual) to box himself in.

And which approach he uses at any given intersection will likely depend more on the natural lay of the land — a good reading of what it will take to get from point A to point B — than anything else.

Like several key figures in President Trump’s inner circle, RFK Jr started out as a Democrat.  He’s a KENNEDY for crying out loud!

And like the others in that photo (INCLUDING PRESIDENT TRUMP!) the corruption and lack of good-faith by the democrats ultimately turned him off, and around.

Simply the fact that a Kennedy with that level of democratic blood flowing in his veins would turn against the democratic party as a whole, much less in cahoots with President Trump, is enough to qualify the man as a LEGIT DISRUPTOR!

Just listen to his own characterization of his jump from democrat to independent candidate back in October of 2023, as reported by NBC News:

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declared his “independence from the Democratic Party” on Monday in Philadelphia, ending his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination and launching an independent bid that he said aims to heal the political divide, which he portrayed as a fiction of a corrupt establishment.

“I intend to wrest the reins of power from both parties and give to it the American people,” he said, comparing Republicans and Democrats to teenagers fighting over the steering wheel of an out-of-control car, both following a GPS route programmed by lobbyists.

“This hatred we have for each other is orchestrated,” Kennedy said, switching to a medieval metaphor. “My job … is to unify Americans. Then we’re all going to go over the castle walls together.”

Total bareknuckle DISRUPTOR!  — Right???

Except, don’t forget what the next step was like.  He didn’t just drop the dems and chill in the independent zone — that would have largely gone over with almost no serious pushback from those of his former democratic allegiance.

But it wasn’t long before RFK Jr. was shaking hands with President Trump on a stage after the initial assassination attempt in Butler, PA and joining forces.

Would MAGA and MAHA coexist?  No – they would seamlessly integrate in a way that harkens to the true nature of both; a fundamental, non-negotiable, bedrock belief in FREEDOM.

And not just any “freedom”, but good old American freedom; individual freedom.  Badass American freedom.

And that integration was one of the most smoothly orchestrated strategic moves I’ve ever seen in any arena.

Just listen to what Nicole Shanahan, his former VP pick, said about watching his confirmation hearings:

“The first thing my fiancé said to me this morning as we were watching [RFK Jr’s confirmation hearing] was he looked over at me and he says, ‘I don’t think you hate these Democrats enough.”

“MAGA and MAHA — they’re bipartisan. It’s now a unity movement.”

Disruption doesn’t generally bring about unity, at least not in the first moments.  But reform can… if you do it right.

And have you ever seen it done MORE RIGHT than what President Trump and RFK Jr pulled off bringing the two together?

The beauty is… they didn’t even have to convince anyone to change their stance — there was no policy shifts included!

They simply pointed out, by extreme example, how UNIFIED the two camps ALREADY WERE in actuality.

And then they modeled it, and lightbulbs went off all around the country as people got some sense of what that might mean.

It meant unmitigated WINNING, and it’s not over yet.

But sometimes it pays to have the cojones to stand your ground and be known for doing so.

Sometimes, that willingness to disrupt invites other disruptors who will, well, disrupt on your behalf — which is exactly what happened yesterday during RFK Jr’s confirmation hearing.

Senator Rand Paul got so fired up just talking about what RFK Jr has brought to the table that he never even had a chance to ask him a question with his allotted time!

That’s the power of being a DISRUPTOR; those who are already close enough to your ‘tribe’ will see what you’re doing, and naturally join in.

Just listen to how much sense Sen. Rand Paul made on RFK Jr’s behalf!

As Rand pointed out so emphatically all the nuanced consistencies in RFK Jr’s approach, the intelligence and tact of the man should have come into focus for anyone with a brain — which excludes much of Congress, I know.

But the man really does have the intelligence and smarts to put his money where his mouth is, attending Harvard and the London School of Economics, among other institutions, as Business Insider reports:

Kennedy attended Harvard and studied at the London School of Economics. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School and earned a master’s in environmental law from Pace University School of Law.

He founded the environmental nonprofit Waterkeeper Alliance in 1999, according to the organization’s official website. His primary achievement was forcing the closure of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.

Kennedy has long espoused anti-vaccine views, suggesting a flu vaccine may have caused his voice disorder (he has spasmodic dysphonia, a rare neurological disorder).

In 2005, he wrote an article published in Salon claiming that the mercury-based thimerosal compound in vaccines causes autism. After issuing multiple corrections, Salon eventually retracted the piece. Kennedy later founded the anti-vaccine group Children’s Health Defense, originally named the World Mercury Project, in 2011.

Kennedy rose to prominence during the pandemic for his opposition to COVID-19 vaccines.

You know its bad when even a left-leaning media outlet can’t quite make you look as bad as they would obviously like to in reporting your bio.

Which brings me to something else that I think has played a role in RFK Jr’s ability to be both disruptor and reformer, and which will continue to see that 1-2-combo punch play out at the Dept. of HHS.

He is a genuine man of faith and personal conviction… which in practical terms means he is a natural rebel!

But it also means that to the degree he honors God, God will honor him.

I don’t know about you… but I’ve read enough Bible stories to know that if you’re praying the same thing for 20 years, even if Michael has to show up and help Gabriel out with some spiritual realm riffraff, there’s some power coming your way.

Just listen to what he says his daily prayer has consisted of for the past 20 years as shared by Charlie Kirk:

And last but not least, the man is not afraid to confront corruption head on.

That’s hardcore DISRUPTOR stuff, right there.  And of course you are going to create a cadre of enemies for your trouble, but any true disruptor soon learns to embrace that as a good sign.

Just check out this clip from yesterday’s hearing when RFK Jr realized Bernie Sanders had just unthinkingly given him the opportunity to call out Bernie’s part in the systemic corruption of Congress, which he immediately did.

At the end of the day, it remains to be seen if we’ll get to see either the disruptor or reformer side of RFK Jr. come out to play in the Dept. of HHS.

His confirmation is surely not guaranteed, and there are a few key holdouts at the moment.

But I long to see someone with both the patience to play a long game and the bravado to go full-disruptor step into the halls of HHS, and scare the living daylights out of EVERYONE.

Only time will tell if that dream manifests.  But I know for a fact that God is both Disruptor and Reformer, as well.

So… who knows that God hasn’t put his hand on RFK Jr as a “man after my own heart”?

It’s happened before.  And it may be happening again.
