As President Donald Trump continues to clear house within the Executive Branch, reports began to surface this week that several senior officials within the FBI were in his crosshairs.
Multiple sources reported that the bureau advised these agents that they could either retire, resign, or be fired as soon as early next week.
According to USA Today:
The officials reportedly included executive assistant directors and top agents in field offices, including some who oversee national security and criminal investigations and were promoted by former FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Wray resigned at the end of former President Joe Biden’s term. Trump had made apparent his desire to replace Wray, whom he had appointed during his previous term, with Kash Patel, a loyal political ally.
The Justice Department on Monday said it fired more than a dozen lawyers who helped prosecute Trump in the classified documents and Jan. 6 cases that were dropped after he won reelection.
The messages on Thursday reportedly came in as Kash Patel, the president’s pick to replace Wray, testified to senators during a confirmation hearing.
Trump has clashed with the FBI in the past, including when he issued blanket pardons to those charged or convicted in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, protest on Capitol Hill.
Thanks to President Trump, my #J6 charges were dismissed by the @TheJusticeDept in a court hearing this morning.
As a former @FBI agent, I’ve been shocked and disgusted by the actions of the FBI and DOJ personnel involved in my investigation and prosecution. They must all be… pic.twitter.com/vJdhpV0ZCv

Last March, I was arrested by seven armed FBI agents, my apartment was raided, and my phone was seized.
Tonight, I am honored to have received a pardon from President Trump.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for the overwhelming love, prayers,…

There was also the federal raid conducted on his personal residence at Mar-A-Lago in Florida:
OMG. The FBI agents who raided Mar-a-Lago with LETHAL FORCE authorization were instructed to wear unmarked polo shirts and to keep their law enforcement equipment concealed

Fox News reported on the Senate confirmation hearing going on as news began to surface about Trump’s ultimatum:
During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Patel said he is unaware of any plans of retribution by the Trump administration.
“Are you aware of any plans or discussions to punish in any way, including termination, FBI agents or personnel associated with Trump investigations?” asked Democratic Sen. Cory Booker.
“I am not aware of that, senator,” Patel replied.
Although Patel has been nominated, a director has not been officially confirmed to take charge, so the news of the ultimatum was alarming for those involved.
Until the vote comes to a close, Brian Driscoll remains the bureau’s acting director.
