A small plane crashed into a residential area of Northeast Philadelphia Friday evening.
“The plane, a Learjet 55, was going from Philadelphia to Springfield, Missouri, leaving the Northeast Philadelphia Airport when tragedy struck,” CBS News reports.
“Philadelphia police have activated a citywide emergency response as multiple emergency crews rush to the scene of a small plane crash near Roosevelt Mall at Cottman and the Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia,” Rawsalerts wrote.
“The crash ignited a massive explosion, setting several homes on fire. Reports indicate multiple people are injured on the ground, and two individuals were on board the aircraft. This remains a developing situation,” the post added.

The aircraft crashed near a residential street shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, according to dispatch reports. Two people were aboard the plane and there are reports of injuries to people who were on the ground, police said.
ADVERTISEMENTWitnesses on social media said they saw an orange flash near Roosevelt Mall, an outdoor shopping center off the boulevard that is surrounded by homes. Several homes are on fire, CBS News reported.

CBS News reports:
Multiple homes are on fire in the area of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard following the crash, fire officials said.
Police sources told CBS News Philadelphia’s Chief Investigative Reporter Joe Holden that parts of the plane hit cars in the area. Some businesses near the Roosevelt Mall are on fire, sources said.
The area, where the crash happened, especially near Cottman and Roosevelt Boulevard is a densely residential neighborhood and packed with rows of rowhomes.
Neighbors in the Northeast Philadelphia area have called CBS Philadelphia reporting their homes shook when the plane went down.
It’s unclear at this time what led to the crash. The status of those who were injured was also not immediately available.
