Frontier Airlines Issues Nationwide Ground Stop On All Flights!

Frontier Airlines briefly issued a nationwide ground stop due to IT issues.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the advisory on its website.

“Frontier Airlines has issued a nationwide ground stop following a major IT failure. Passengers are advised to check for updates as the airline works to resolve the issue,” Mario Nawfal wrote.

Per Reuters:

The ground stop was requested by the Denver-based airline at 2233 GMT, and the stop was canceled at 2254 GMT, according to the FAA.

Frontier confirmed that the ground stop had been lifted, and said its systems operations center experienced a short internet outage that caused the airline to initiate a brief ground stop.

“Frontier Airlines has resolved its computer issues, and the nationwide ground stop has been lifted. Passengers should still expect delays as operations return to normal,” Nawfal noted.

Newsweek reports:

Frontier Airlines drew attention after issuing a ground stop for all flights on Thursday afternoon. After a short break, around 6 p.m., the ground stop was lifted, according to the FAA.

Frontier Airlines told Newsweek in a statement: “Our Systems Operations Center experienced a short internet outage that caused us to initiate a brief ground stop, which has since been lifted. The ground stop was in place for approximately 20 minutes.”

According to the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), a ground stop is when air traffic control requires “aircraft that meet specific criteria to remain on the ground at their origination airport.”

As of January 2025, Frontier Airlines operates 159 aircraft — just over half as many as JetBlue’s 290 aircraft, still significantly less than Spirit Airline’s 212 aircraft, and a fraction of American Airline’s 978 mainline aircraft.
