We just saw prisoner swaps between the United States and the Taliban, a final play by the Biden Administration to repair a tarnished presidency.
On one hand, any time we can recover an American from our enemies — alive — is a win.
On the other hand… what happened with the longstanding policy of not negotiating with terrorists?
At any rate, I would almost give Biden a surprising win on this one.
Almost — if it hadn’t been discovered in the process that the previous administration has allegedly been covering up the fact that far more Americans are being held captive in Afghanistan than previously thought.
Left, by us, in the hands of our enemies… because they thought it was politically expedient to let it be.
So on the heels of a prisoner swap, and a certain amount of celebration, we have already turned the page for a major policy shift regarding Afghanistan and the Taliban in particular.
And Marco Rubio is not taking the news lightly.
Just hearing the Taliban is holding more American hostages than has been reported. If this is true, we will have to immediately place a VERY BIG bounty on their top leaders, maybe even bigger than the one we had on Bin Laden.

That was his reaction upon learning (from where, or how, we know not) that the Biden Administration was reportedly concealing the fact that a lot more Americans are still being held in Afghanistan than the American people were told about.
After a few hours, and with presumably some clarity achieved on the Americans being held, things — as they say — escalated fast.

Almost immediately after the prisoner exchange for Americans Ryan Corbett and William McKenty, news broke that more Americans were being held that weren’t previously known about.
President Trump’s Sec. of State Marco Rubio immediately changed tone, according to a report in the New York Post:
Secretary of State Marco Rubio threatened the heads of the Taliban with a “very big bounty” after hearing that more American hostages are being held by the group.
“Just hearing the Taliban is holding more American hostages than has been reported,” the secretary wrote on X.
“If this is true, we will have to immediately place a VERY BIG bounty on their top leaders, maybe even bigger than the one we had on Bin Laden,” he threatened.’
The post did not give further details about how many Americans or which members of leadership could be targeted.
ADVERTISEMENTEarlier this week, two Americans held by the Taliban were freed in a prisoner swap.
Ryan Corbett and William McKenty were sent back stateside in exchange for convicted narco-terrorist Khan Mohammed in a deal struck in the finals days of the Biden administration.
That deal excluded fellow Americans George Glezmann and Mahmood Habibi.
Former CIA targetter and current pro-bono Benghazi terrorist hunter has revealed the ugly truth somehow uncovered through the prisoner swap.
The Taliban is holding more Americans captive than the Biden administration allowed us to know about.
I see the rest of the country has finally learned the Taliban is holding Americans as hostages, it’s worse than you think as the Taliban has promised Al-Qaeda that it can execute one of them, Mahmood Habibi. We must demand his immediate release! @SenMarcoRubio https://t.co/shUrT6SAK5

And according to some reports, the total number of Americans being held is as many as 7.
Why aren’t we talking about this?
Because the Biden Administration COVERED IT UP.
I find myself repeating that statement, getting more and more angry each time.
This is what you reap when ineptitude and corruption and evil men are allowed to sow on behalf of a nation, unmitigated.
Right now, as we speak, the Taliban is holding 7 Americans hostage.

And if you missed it, Sarah Adams broke the story as to why Mahmood Habibi in particular wasn’t among those just released.
The reason is simple — the Taliban promised al Qaeda that they could execute one of the Americans… and Mahmood Habibi is that man.
If you are a fan of the Shawn Ryan podcast, you’ll likely know that al Qaeda is reconstituted under the Islamic Army heading, along with dozens of other former competing terror groups… now, intermarried, and sharing family blood.
And remember that one son of Osama bin Laden that we killed? Yeah, we didn’t, though. And in spite of the fact that our own CIA will not concede that they were either wrong, or misled us — Osama bin Laden’s son now runs a regrouped, better funded, better trained, better equipped, and BETTER CONNECTED advanced version of al Qaeda.
And all this time they have been planning a plot in the west to include European targets and American targets, timed for 2025.
But somehow… the border isn’t a problem? Yeah, it is now, thanks to the Biden regime’s complete incompetence, and in some cases… complicity.
The recent prisoner swap was actually arranged by the Biden regime, as previously stated.
And now I have to wonder — was it in the hopes of closing the door to any curiosity about Americans in Afghanistan, in the hopes of avoiding the skeletons in Biden’s Afghanistan closet? Maybe.
And one of the Americans still being held is reportedly there only because the Biden administration decided — for no good reason — not to pursue his release, according to a report from Fox News:
On Saturday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X that he was “just hearing” of the detentions of additional Americans by the Taliban.
Dennis Fitzpatrick, who is coordinating efforts outside the U.S. government for Glezmann’s release, claimed Glezmann was “never a serious priority for the Biden White House.”
“President Biden and [former National Security Advisor] Jake Sullivan decided to leave George Glezmann in Kabul for no good reason,” Fitzpatrick told Fox News Digital. “We are confident that President Trump’s clear-eyed leadership will secure George’s release to his family.”
Fitzpatrick added that 66-year-old Glezmann is “a totally innocent man” who was “a hard-working, blue-collar airline mechanic before he was wrongfully detained. He doesn’t deserve to be used as a pawn.”
Glezmann has been in detention since Dec. 5, 2022, when he was traveling to Afghanistan to “explore the cultural landscape and rich history of the country” according to a Senate resolution from July 2024 calling for his immediate release.
The resolution states that Glezmann’s mental and physical condition were deteriorating as a result of his detention in a nine-foot square underground cell. He has only been allowed limited calls to family and has experienced “facial tumors, hypertension, severe malnutrition, and other medical conditions” as a result of his detention.
While the Taliban admit to holding Glezmann in custody, they insist they do not hold Mahmood Habibi.
Unfortunately, Sarah Adams has already divulged her teams’ findings as to why the Taliban refute holding Hahmood Habibi.
It is either because they are intending on handing him over to al Qaeda for execution, or because they already have.
Thankfully, as Fox News posted, Marco Rubio apparently has President Trump’s blessing to go hard against the Taliban since this information has become known.

There are multiple avenues of approach that the U.S. can take, simultaneously effecting both diplomatic and military options, according to the previously referenced Fox News story:
Fox News Digital also reached out to Taliban spokespersons Zabihullah Mujahid and Suhail Shaheen about Habibi’s detention and asked Mujahid what happened to Habibi after he was arrested by the GDI. Mujahid did not respond. Shaheen directed Fox News Digital to reach out to the GDI and claimed no knowledge of the situation.
Former Principal Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Hugh Dugan told Fox News Digital the Trump administration could pursue multiple “lines of effort” to secure the release of Glezmann and Habibi.
Dugan said this could involve “outright rescue by the military” at one level or continued “subtle diplomacy in the background.”
Meanwhile, Sec. of State Marco Rubio is planning bounties on the heads of related Taliban leaders that will dwarf the $25 million the U.S. put on Osama bin Laden’s head.
He indicated Saturday that was a likely next step, according to a report in Newsweek:
Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated on Saturday that the United States government may consider placing a “very big bounty” to locate top Taliban leadership after learning there may be more American hostages than previously reported to the public.
The Taliban, the group in control of the government of Afghanistan, earlier this week released two Americans in exchange for a Taliban figure in a prisoner swap as the group continues to seek international legitimacy over three years following their insurgency and conquest of the country.
The Americans were identified as Ryan Corbett, who was detained by the Taliban in August 2022 while on a business trip, and William McKenty, as confirmed by the House Foreign Affairs Committee in a statement released on January 21. The statement made mention of “the other Americans who remain wrongfully detained and held hostage in Afghanistan” without providing a number.
Rubio was sworn in as the new secretary of state on January 21 after receiving near-unanimous support from his former colleagues as he was confirmed with a vote of 99 senators backing his nomination. He hit the ground running as he addressed China and held a phone call with his counter part, Chinese Director of the CCP Central Foreign Affairs Commission and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
He followed up on Saturday evening with a surprise post on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which he suggested that intelligence indicates there may be more American citizens being detained by the Taliban than what has been publicly disclosed.
Margaret Brennan who moderates CBS’s Face The Nation posted in response to Rubio’s announcement that there are more Americans than thought being held.
Notable threat to Taliban from US after the release earlier this week of 2 Americans. There are at least 2 *other Americans, including one legally designated as wrongfully detained and another unjustly detained. Rubio suggests even more…. https://t.co/khAcp9bX3n
— Margaret Brennan (@margbrennan) January 25, 2025
I am worried that the “even more” suggest by Rubio are the seven that is being discussed in some circles.
At any rate, we just went from kowtowing to our former enemies — who still hold Americans! — to something more akin to TARGETTING THEM.
Walk softly, and carry a big stick. The soft walk is for looks, but that stick is there in case you need it.
And it is beginning to look like we’re about to need it, once again.
